"Why do you say that?" Her soft voice could be heard.
"I don't know mom, I haven't treated her like she deserves. I always end up pushing her away."
"Because of what happened between you when you moved in?"
"Maybe? I just, when she said it was a mistake, it really hurt." Jaehyun said. "I know I've always messed around, but with her, it felt different. Since the beginning, it felt different."
"Honey, maybe she is the one."
"No, mom. Not maybe." He said. "She is the one, but I ruined everything."
"Why do you say that?" His mom asked, concerned at the tone of her son.
"She kicked me out and quit her job." Jaehyun paused. "I know she's your best editor and I am so sorry, I messed everything up."
"Jaehyun, honey, I couldn't care less about work when I know my son is hurting. You know you're the most important thing for me." Jaehyun wiped a tear that was snaking on his cheek.
"Mom, I messed up," he sobbed. "She hates me."
"Honey, open the door." Jaehyun's eyes widened and ran to the door. He was greeted by a smiling woman, her arms open and ready to embrace her son.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"Someone told me your dad's back." She entered the house. "I wanted to make sure you were okay, but I see you got different problems."
Jaehyun looked in the mirror near the main door, his hair was disheveled, his nose red, and his eyes puffy.
"Dad wants me to get married to Mr. Choi's daughter. I don't want to. I don't want to be a rich kid marrying another rich kid."
"He what?" She seemed outraged at this information.
"Apparently, he doesn't understand that I don't want money, all I want is to start my own life. By myself... and well... y'know." He scratched his neck.
"Y/n?" His mother laughed, and he nodded shyly. "Your house is lovely by the way."
"Thanks, dad said it looked like the maid's house. Mom?" He asked. "Why did you marry dad?"
"Well, he was a very nice man... but after your grandfather died, he inherited all that money and just became vain. Which is why I divorced him."
"Well, that was a good choice, you don't deserve to be with someone like him," he said. "But mom, he is serious about me marrying Haeun."
"That spoiled girl?" he nodded. "I'll do everything in my power to avoid that happening." Her laughter was interrupted by Jaehyun's phone ringing.
Your name was displayed on the screen, a picture of you smiling was the background. He took that photo a week after moving in when you guys went to have some coffee. That was before everything went downhill.
"Your girlfriend is calling." His mom sang.
"Mom," he laughed and answered the phone, staying silent, not knowing what to say.
"Hey." You talked first. Your voice barely coming as a whisper.
"Hey." He said, his voice soft.
"Thank you for everything you've done for me. I don't deserve it."
"Don't say that," his mom looked at him worried.
"Jaehyun, I'm sorry," you started. "I didn't mean what I said, please don't leave."
"I won't." He paused. "I have to apologize too."
"Can we talk when I get back home?"
"Of course, I will be waiting for you." He whispered.
