*Ruby*
Today was the day I had to go to court. I was shaking because I don't think I can be strong enough to say the truth.
"Are you ready!" Donovan asked. Looking out the window of the back seat of my moms car I noticed we were parked beside the steps.
"I'm scared" I told him honestly, not meeting his gaze. "I'll be with you every step of the way." Smiling I set ny hand on the door handle and stepped out.
Donovan quickly got on my right and walked with me. People crowded the doors to get in but the cops wouldn't let them.
The cop recognized me from coming in my room at the hospital telling me what was happening. He let us pass and I stopped dead in my tracks.
Tré sat at the front looking over at me with a grin. He seemed like he already knew what I was going to say.
"Come on Ruby" he whispered. Staring at the floor I went to my seat. "Everyone please rise" a cop spoke and I stood looking up. The judge walked in and took his seat.
I was called up and I placed my hand on the bible. Saying the words I took the chair next to the judge. "Ruby we have heard what your witness has told us and he wrote it down. Now we just need you to tell us what the truth is. Tell us what happened."
Messing with my fingers I forced myself to not look down. I was beyond nervous. Glancing a few glances at Tré smirking.
Could I really tell them the truth without Tré hurting me in the end probably not.
"Answer the man" the judge told me. Focusing on him I took a deep shaky breath. "He...he abused me at his house. If I do something he doesn't approve of he'll beat me."
I couldn't help tears as they rolled down my cheeks. People gasped and whispered. "How long has this been going on?"
"Three years." I looked at my hands finally and bit my quivering lip. "That's all" the man said and I rushed off the and to the seat next to Donovan.
I couldn't look at Tré, knowing he was pissed. "Tré Williams will you please rise." Keeping my eyes on the judge I squeezed my seat.
"You have forty days of community service. In the morning and afternoon. Your classes will be changed so you can not be around her. Meeting adjourned."
Standing I rushed outside in tears. "Ruby!" Not stopping I continued to run and shoved the people out of my way. I saw my mom parked by the steps and i quickly jumped inside.
"Drive!" I yelled and looked out the window to see Donovan running after the car for a while.
I had to leave, get away from everything. It was a mistake to turn against Tré. I should of lied and told them I fell or something. Yet I trust a random stranger that I feel safe and secure with.
