I found this when looking for a poem I wrote last year. I wrote it when I was in a bad state of mind and was drowning in school work and doubt, enjoy~
Light peaked through the soft cloth covering the teen girl's bedroom, reaching in and caressing the sleeping figures face. The girl groaned quietly and turned the other way, hoping to finish her dream before she had to deal with the stress of overdue school work. Soon enough, sleep took over her body again and she drifted into a dream.
The stars were the first thing she saw in her dream. She reached up and touched one, an electric vibe sent through her and she smiled. She was one with the galaxy as her body moved in different directions, dancing about. The beautiful colours that surrounded her, causing a fuzzy warm feeling to surge through her.
Here in the galaxy she had no worries, she was at peace with herself. There was no one to stop her from doing what she wanted. No one to torment her or stress her over her limit time and time again. But even she knew it was impossible. She wanted to leave her world and stay here but it wasn't that simple. The girl sat down on a star and started to ponder life. She took a deep breath and sighed. Soon the world around her started to turn black and she closed her eyes.
She opened her eyes to be greeted by the stars once again. Confused she looked around. Wasn't she supposed to be in her bedroom? Her face scrunched up as she stood once again. Panic flowing through her body instantly as she realised she was stuck here.
"I'll be fine...I'm still dreaming...that's it," she muttered to herself.
But there was a small thing in the back of her mind telling her that wasn't right. It all felt a little too real. Had her imagination malfunctioned? Can imaginations malfunction even? Questions swirled around her head.
Tears pricked in the corners of her eyes as she felt sadness take over. The poor girl sat on a star and pulled her knees to her chest as she sobbed. She didn't understand what was happening. She wished she knew this was going to happen and if she'd get home.
A shadow casted over the girl, causing her to look up. By her side stood a woman, her hair straight, long and silver. Her skin was a pale grey-like the moon. She wore a long dress that had beautiful crescent moons detailed into it with thread. On her face were paintings of the galaxy and a small smile.
The unknown women helped the girl up and she reached placed her hand gently on Astrids cheek. The woman's other hand holding Astrids right hand.
"W-who are you?" Astrid stuttered out, clearly shocked by the womans sudden appearance.
"Why I am the moon darling," she spoke in a soft clear angelic voice.
"Why am I here? Am I stuck here?" the smaller girls voice trembled as questions spewed from her mind to her mouth.
Tears threatening to fall once again.
"Only if you wish to be here," the older woman explained.
"What do you mean?" Astrid asked curiously.
"If you want you can stay, here there are no rules, just freedom. Or you can leave and go back to your life on Earth. Where you'll be stuck with no freedom," she explained.
Astrid blinked, taking in the information. Her panic rose and fell as she struggled to decide. This was her whole life ahead of her, she couldn't decide on the spot. Her eyes flickered to the galaxy and then back to the woman. Unexpectedly, she had caught a glimpse of an evil smirk on the woman's face just before it was covered with a smile. A smile that could fool anyone.
"Why would I stay here though? There isn't anyone here," the young girl quizzed, trying to learn more about this place she was in.
"Oh, but there are my dear! If you decide to stay I'll show you them," the woman answered.
Astrid cautiously looked at the woman before looking at her hands. Her eyes widen as the place where the woman held was turning the same pale grey as her. She tried to rip her hand from the woman's grip. Only to have the one from her face fall. In the reflection of a star she could see half her face had changed colour.
"Who are you?! What is this?!" She yelled frantically, trying to shake the unbothered woman off.
"You're becoming part of me darling. You can't escape. You're trapped here," The woman's kind smile turned to an insane grin as she watched the poor girl struggle.
"No! I don't want to stay here! What happened to the freedom!" She yelled, struggling against the woman's grip.
"What freedom? There is no such thing on Earth or here, freedom can never be achieved," The woman snarled, growing impatient with the girls struggles.
Astrid's eyes burned into the woman's, tears pricking at the corners. She shook away the tears and reached for a star. She gripped onto it and using all of her strength in her left hand, she pulled it in between the two of them before smashing it on their hands.
The woman hissed in pain, instantly letting go.
"How dare you! You are staying here whether you like it or not!" Her voice boomed, echoing into the nothingness.
"Never! I wish to go home, back to Earth. I know it's a struggle there but at least I have people who care for me. My stress and worries are normal and can be fixed. I do have freedom there, I have family and friends. Most Importantly I have myself!" The girl screamed, tears blurring her vision.
A bright light shone as she was yelling.
"No!" The women screamed, covering her face from the light.
Everything went silent.
Not a sound could be heard. The girl's vision was black.
Soon a high-pitched noise rang in her eyes and her eyes slowly fluttered open. She sat up, pushing the blanket away from her. She could feel the sweat and tears that covered her. Her breathing becoming regular, indicating that she wasn't breathing correctly beforehand. Her eyes focused on the dark room. Her curtains now wide open in front of her.
She stood from her bed and walked to her window. She looked out towards the sun, but not directly at it. She took a deep breath in and out. A small smile finding its way to her face.
Everyone thought she was the moon, cold, quiet, and trapped. But in truth she was the sun, bright, happy and free.
