This is going to be a Lanna (Leo and Eva) fluff chapter because I feel like writing fluff. It's a fluff kind of midnight.
Eva tapped her fingers against her knees impatiently. Chris slowed the car to a stop at a red light, and she wanted to pull out her dagger and destroy the red light.
Leo was coming today!
Finally, the light turned green. Six minutes and 37 seconds later (she counted), they were in the apartment parking lot. Leaving her backpack in the car, Eva raced up the stairs two at a time, rushing for the roof. She ran to the edge, stopped, and looked up, scanning the sky for Festus.
It felt like hours later, but was really probably only ten minutes, when she saw the glint of bronze diving through the clouds and saw a grin from the dragon's back.
Festus landed just behind her, and Leo had barely dismounted when she had her arms around him and her lips pressed against his. He laughed against her mouth, and she deepened the kiss, wanting it to last forever. Unfortunately, there was the tiny detail called breathing that forced her to pull away, gasping for air.
"I guess you missed me," he muttered.
She beamed. "A little."
He kissed her again, and she could have stayed there forever, the cold air completely bypassing her between Festus and Leo, who's hair she was pretty sure was probably on fire, but who cared, because he was here and she was kissing him and he'd be there for Christmas and New Year's and their one-year anniversary and UGH (at this point her brain dissolved into mush made of pure happiness).
After way too short a kiss, he pulled way and she could study him. He'd gotten about two inches taller, and his eyes were glittering with excitement that she realized with a giddy feeling that was caused by her. After a moment where their eyes, brown against grey, devoured each other hungrily, she sighed happily. "We should go down to the apartment," she murmured. "As much as I'd like to stay here."
He grinned. "Wrong order, Anna."
"Whatever." Gods, she'd missed the way "Anna" sounded coming from his mouth. "Come on."
He turned Festus into the heavy suitcase, grabbed his actual suitcase, and stashed Festus in a hiding spot the author has no idea how to describe because she's never been on top of the apartment building so that they wouldn't risk him destroying all the floors, and headed downstairs, holding hands and brushing shoulders and soaking each other into their bones.
"So you're Leo," Clara said. "Eva never shuts (you know, u and i should not be next to each other on tiny phone keyboards) up about y-"
Eva blushed. "Okay, that's enough!"
Leo snickered.
Eva kicked him.
Leo winced.
Chris's eyes were obviously drawn to the burn scars on Leo's hands. (I have this headcanon that when Leo died, he got burns that scarred) "What happened?" he asked, gesturing to his hands.
"Oh, I died about a year and a half back," Leo said casually. Eva stifled a laugh at the dumbfounded looks on Chris and Clara's faces.
"You what?" Clara spluttered.
"I died. Hey, what time is it? Festus's clock broke."
"Where is Festus?" Chris asked. Clara held up her hand.
"Timeout. You died? You're dead?"
"No," Leo answered patiently. "I died, but my dragon gave me the Physician's Cure, which brought me back to life. And Festus is in suitcase form on the roof."
Chris shook his head. "You are saying all of this so casually. And Eve, you aren't even reacting."
Eva shrugged, grabbing a soda from the fridge and tossing Leo another. "Bro, this is my day-to-day life. Come on, babe, you can put your stuff in my room."
"They're fine with me staying in your room?" Leo asked in a low voice as they left the kitchen.
Eva snickered. "I had a talk with them and a couple weapons. Also the nightmares I get were a contributing factor. We just have to keep the door open."
Leo tossed his stuff in the corner. "Yeah, okay."
That night, they watched a movie: Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Leo, obviously, had never seen it, being a half-blood, and Clara seemed to take that as a personal offense. He made comments like "Festus is cooler," when the Leviathan came onscreen.
Eva answered with "You built Festus."
"Exactly."
She rolled her eyes and smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder.
That night, curled in Leo's arms, listening to his heartbeat, she fell asleep quickly with a smile on her face.
