"How come you don't go home during the school year?" Leo asked, catching the wrench Eva through him.

"I told you. Dad kicked me out when I was seven," she said matter-of-factly. "I don't particularly like the idea of going back."

"No, not that. You said you had an older brother. Wouldn't he be 25 at this point? Couldn't you live with him?"

She handed him a slightly smaller wrench. "Technically, yes. But I like living at camp year-round."

"Don't you want to go to college, live in the real world?"

"Nope. I want to teach sword-fighting at camp."

He lit a little flame at the tip of his nose for light. "You're impossible."

"No, I'm Eva."

He snorted, and she straightened up a little with pride. "Plus, living at camp year-round means I get to spend Christmas with my real family, go on the Winter Solstice field trip every year, and spend every day with you."

"Talking to me or the dragon?" Leo asked, patting Festus's side as he closed the panel in his neck.

"Both?"

"Really feeling the love here, babe."

She kissed his cheek. "How's that?"

He grabbed her waist and pulled her closer, then pressed his lips against hers. "Better now."

She smiled.

"So I've been thinking," Leo started as they walked back to the cabins. "Your full name is Evanna, but everyone calls you Eva."

"I've noticed."

"Would you be alright with me calling you Anna? Since nobody else uses that part of your name?"

She thought for a moment. "Sure. I'd really like that, actually."

"Good."

That night was normal: dinner, Percy yelled at Jason because he was eating fish, Nico and his doctor's note at the Apollo table, then the sing-along, Mr. D made grumpy announcements, and they went to their cabins for bed, where Malcolm and Eva ended up engaging in a rap battle on accident, Cabinet Battle #1, with Eva as Jefferson and Malcolm as Hamilton, and Annabeth as Washington.

But when Eva crawled into bed, all she could think about was what Leo had said, about her brother.

Maybe I should find him.
