So the high school my middle school feeds into did Big Fish as their spring musical, and we went and saw it yesterday. OMG, I'M OBSESSED. BE THE HERO IS SO FREAKING INSPIRING AND FIGHT THE DRAGONS MAKES ME SMILE SO. MUCH. AND SOMEDAY I WANT TO PLAY THE WITCH.

K, on to the story!

To start with, Eva asked the following question: "what do you know about the Greek gods?"

"Well," Chris started. "Their king was Zeus, right? God of the skies. And there's Poseidon, god of the seas. And Hades, god of the Underworld. And Hera, goddess of marriage."

Eva chewed her lip and glanced up, praying the gods wouldn't decide they needed murdering.

"And there's monsters, too," Clara put in. "Like the Hydra, and the Minotaur, and the Furies, and dracaenae, and-"

"Okay, you'd better not say those names around me," Eva cut her off. "Seriously, stop."

"But, they're just myths, right?" Chris said hesitantly. "Right?"

Eva sighed. "The gods are immortal, right? So logically, they're still around. They move with the heart of the West. Currently, Mount Olympus is hovering over the Empire State Building. I've been there, well, before it was destroyed. It was amazing. And my half-sister designed the new buildings and I've seen her blue prints and they're incredible and I'm rambling now. Point is, those gods are real, the heroes - Hercules, Odysseus, Perseus, Theseus, lot of "yeesus" (get it?) - all those heroes lived and died. Those monsters are still around and attacking kids like me. Modern demigods. My mother's name is Athena. She's the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. Because of her, I've spent my life learning how to defend myself and praying I live to see my twentieth birthday." She took a shaky breath. "It's not an easy life, but I've built a family out of the other half-bloods at camp, and I wouldn't trade them for anything." She went on to explain Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter, the gods, her family, Leo. By the end, she was sure she messed everything up. "I'm sorry. I can go back to Camp Half-Blood, if you want."

Clara hugged her, which startled her. "Of course we don't want you to leave!"

Chris grinned. "You're our family now. So stay."

Eva felt like a weight the size of Festus had been lifted from her chest. "Really?"

Clara smiled. "Really. As long as I never have to go for a ride on that dragon you mentioned-"

"Festus."

"Right, Festus, you can stay."

Eva was sure she could have flown to the moon on her happiness. "Wow. Thank you."

"Of course."
