Terrance is a college freshman who pretty much kept to himself. He did everything either alone or with the one friend he has made at school. He wasn't very social and didn't get out much; that is until one day he meets Connor, an adventurous college...
It was the week of my birthday and the week after Spring break which meant that I was back in school.
I didn't really mind, but the only downside was that I'd be spending my actual birthday with only one person, Jaron.
I met Jaron one day in the dining hall when it was very crowded and the only place for us to sit was at the only empty table left with each other. That day, we instantly connected and after that, we became close and I was actually surprised with how much we had in common. He became one of the only people I spoke to at school and someone I told everything to in just a matter of weeks.
It was pretty much the end of the week since our classes were cancelled tomorrow and I had finished with my classes for the day so Jaron suggested that we started celebrating early.
Jaron and I agreed to get dressed and spend today just exploring the city and maybe going out to eat or to the museum since there wouldn't be any lit parties until tomorrow. I agreed being that since I had been in college, I hadn't really been off campus much unless I was home.
I decided to wear a long sleeved graphic tee paired with a silver chain, some dad jeans, my black and white Skechers (which I think are stylish) and my favorite coat (just in case it got cold) and fanny pack from "CHill" which has grown to become my new favorite clothing brand.
Just as I finished lacing my shoe, I got a call from Jaron.
"Oouuu bitch, you look cute!"
"Thank you" I laughed, blushing at the compliment.
My face always turned red so easily since I was so light and it's always so noticeable, even through the many freckles that cover my face.
"Are you dressed?" he asked.
"Yeah, I actually just finished. Meet me in the lobby."
"Alright, on my way down now."
By the time we were both in the lobby, our lyft was pretty much here. Our first stop was out to eat since I had not eaten all day and it was almost 5. I spent most of the day in bed, on my phone and laptop until it was time to get ready.
I decided on some Italian restaurant because I was in the mood for some pasta. I got to make most of the day's decisions since my birthday was in two days.
After arriving at the restaurant and being seated in one of the booths, per my request, and briefly scanning the menus, I decided on a meal which I ultimately decided was spaghetti with a lemonade for my drink while Jaron ordered some other kind of pasta I had never heard of and a water.
"You excited for you birthday?" Jaron asked breaking the silence.
"Surprisingly, I am" I responded after taking a sip of my lemonade and scanning the restaurant. I had a bad habit of judging people.
"So what you wanna do after this? I heard the museum down the street has a new exhibit where—" Jaron paused, I guess noticing the look on my face.
My eyes had widened and my mouth had somewhat opened at the sight of who was in here, the last person I expected to see.
Jaron turned his head so that he could see what I was looking at and once he noticed, he turned his head back around to look at me, but I was still in shock.
About two booths down from us sat William. William was the first person I met in college that actually stuck. He was a line backer on the football team and we met after one of his football games when he realized that I had his number written on my face, #7.
I had honestly only done it to try and get into the school spirit and because 7 was my favorite number. I didn't actually know anyone on the football team at the time, but he thought it was cute.
After that, we started spending a lot of time together, and I mean A LOT. If neither of us were in class, or he wasn't at football practice, then we were usually together.
One night, we got super drunk together and had sex. Up until that point, I didn't even know he liked boys. Most of the people he messed with were girls so that's usually what I heard about.
Long story short, feelings got involved and I was ready to commit, but he wasn't so we decided to just go back to being strictly friends. If you know anything about these kinds of situations then you know that that didn't go exactly as planned so we eventually stopped speaking.
There was no bad blood or anything, but things were just awkward after that. I guess it's my fault for expecting loyalty from a football player.
Just as I recollected myself and began to look away, he caught my gaze. I turned my head as fast as I could, but I knew that he had saw me.
I hadn't seen or spoken to him since the end of first semester, which was easy since he was a sophomore so he stayed in a different dorm and we didn't have any classes together, so I didn't expect to be met by him standing at our table when I turned back around.
Jaron only smirked at me after I had turned around so I knew he was getting a kick out of this.
"Someone's birthday is in two days." he smiled as if what happened between us had never happened before sliding into the side of the booth I was sitting on next to me, without even asking, forcing me to move over.
"Yeah" I half smiled back trying to sound enthusiastic.
It was crazy that after three months, his caramel complexion, chiseled features and perfect teeth were still my weakness.
I guess that William noticed the tone in my voice because after only about a minute of sitting down looking back and forth between me and Jaron, he got up.
"Well, enjoy your meals. I'm gonna—" the rest was muffled as he walked away scratching his head.
As much as I didn't want to have to deal with the feelings and confusion I got from being around him, part of me actually wanted him to stay.
"You miss him don't you?" Jaron asked.
"A little." I never bothered lying to Jaron though I wasn't always 100% honest because though we've only known each other for some months, he knew me very well.
Right at the moment, the waitress came back carrying two plates of pasta along with a bread of bowl. She sat the plates in front of us and I closed my eyes to say my grace.
Once, I finished, I lifted my head, not being able to resist taking a peek of William in the midst. To my surprise, he was staring back with an apologetic smile on his face and I couldn't help but send one back.
Not wanting to get too ahead of myself, I broke away from the stare, looking down at my plate and began playing with the noodles.
I looked up at Jaron to see if he had noticed and I could tell that he had because all he could do was laugh and shake his head.
Jaron was the only person who knew of me and William's relationship, besides us of course, and would always joke that me and Will want each other, despite me constantly denying it and not being convinced myself that William wanted me after everything that happened.
However, something about him coming over to the table and the brief stare that we shared made me think that Jaron might be right.
I let out a soft sigh and began to eat. We pretty much ate in silence after that.
