The professor dismissed the math class at noon and it was officially spring break. The jam packed schedule would begin almost immediately. Despite it being spring break, Mila was super booked. After math, she would head straight to the city hall to be there in support of the city manager before lacrosse practice. After that, she needed to squeeze in a quick shower before meeting Chris at the airport despite his many offers to be chauffeured there. What kind of host would she be then?
It most definitely wasn't ideal for Chris to stay at the dorms with Mila and Ashley, but he didn't mind booking a suite for a few days at a hotel close to her campus. It had been weeks since they had last seen each other in Disney World and they both had planned itineraries for different days. She had managed to stay out of the public eye by doing what she did best... keeping to herself. It was easy enough given that she was already a private person.
It was also the first of a new month, March, and she was excited for the week to come. Chris wouldn't be leaving until the 10th, which felt like he'd be in little old Georgia for a hot minute but she tried to ignore that.
The city hall meeting dragged by, but the city manager had a way of making his seven page speech sound much quicker and easier to absorb. Mika had to admit that although she was so distracted when revising it and taking notes for the city manager to read, it did come out rather nicely if she might say so herself!
Practice that afternoon consisted of dividing up the team for a scrimmage. It was brutal as all of the team had seemingly stepped their game up knowing that it was the first time in a long time that the VSU women's lacrosse team would be going to nationals.
When their final practice scrimmage was over and the sun was setting, coach Clark had them seated on the outdoor bleachers. Some of the girls sipped from their water jugs, others fanned themselves. They were exhausted, but the evening temperature was dropping and slowly cooling them off.
Their coach had a big grin on his face, and so did assistant coach Andrew who was standing next to him, both facing the team on the bleachers. Coach Clark had a few papers in his hands. He said, "It's official. The nationals will take place in Stanford, California where we will arrive April 21st, play our matches the 22nd and 23rd, and we'll see the awards banquet April 24th and fly back that night. The state will be paying for both our plane tickets and hotel room costs, but as far as food and souvenirs go, that's on you."
Mila turned to Felicity who was sat next to her on the bleachers. They shared excited looks before turning back to the coach that announced a few more things. "I am so beyond proud of this team. I'll save the hysterics for the ride to the airport in next month, but until then..."
The team picked up where he left off as they all cheered, "Raise some turf!" With that, they started to grab their things. Some headed to the locker room to change, shower, or wait for a ride while others went straight to the parking lot to leave.
Mila went to the locker room to take a shower. She had brought a spare change of clothes with her. Normally, she'd change into sweatpants and just shower back at the dorm, but that would take up more time considering she needed to be in and out of here to head for the airport that was two hours away. She just brought her shampoo, conditioner, and body wash with her to practice to shower there instead.
She grabbed her clothes and shower materials and before she could head to the showers, someone tapped her on the back. It was Shelby.
Shelby offered a small smile, but the look on her face let Mila know she had something to say. Shelby asked, "Is it true that you know Chris Evans?"
Nothing would have prepared Mila for that. Despite being put on spot by TMZ weeks ago, no one had actually confronted her about it and because of that, she hadn't been worried about preparing a script of things to say in the case that people asked.
