Rude Awakening

I jumped up in bed suddenly awake. I quickly sat up and checked my watch 3:15AM. I had no idea why I had woken up but I think it might have been noise; I looked to my side to see Ashley sleeping peacefully. I was starting to get worried so I stepped out of bed and put my shorts and shirt on. I grabbed my knife and put it in my pocket before slipping on my shoes.

I slowly opened the door and stepped outside before closing it, and then I heard it again, the sound of an animal shouting, in this case the roar of a bear. I shifted my eyes before heading east in the direction of the sound. I heard it again this time south of where I was, now I had no doubts what so ever, it was Mark and he was in the same place he had killed the deer. The moon was high in the sky and almost full, I guessed it would be full after tomorrow. There was a cool breeze but it wasn’t cold, the ground was still dry and all around me I could hear the small animals moving around, it was distracting and in a way I just wanted to growl at them. A deer ran past me to my left and made me jump, I hated not being a wolf at the moment, and I felt so much more vulnerable. Within a few minutes I reached the site of the kill where Mark stood there, waiting.

“Well, I thought it would take you a bit less time than that, you kept me waiting” he smiled, I don’t know if he realised I could see every detail, like the way he had dirt on his shirt and shorts from when he shifted into a bear to grab my attention and then shift back to talk to me.

“Well... I thought you would make another move soon, and I’m sure you wouldn’t just abandon me here so I took my time” I smiled as I slowly reached into my pocket and gripped the knife, ready to pull it out and open it in case I would need to.

“True...” he paused “But I’m not here to kill you, not yet. Your family is way too cute to cut you up right now”

“I swear to god if you hurt any of them I will kill you” I growled slightly and shifted my teeth

“Coming from an atheist... that means a lot” he smirked, everyone at school knew I was an atheist, at least they used to.

“Fine, I swear, on my life, and their lives, that if you hurt them, I will kill you”

“Alright, well, how about the day of the full moon, let’s say... at sunset? So that’s after tomorrow at sunset. That is when I will attack.” He smiled and his voice was filled with arrogance.

“Fine, but you’re going to die” Right now I was too pissed off with him to think of anything else.

“So it’s a deal, tomorrow, sunset, we fight.” He smiled again as he turned away

“You’re forgetting something Mark” I said suddenly. He stopped and turned

“And what would that be? Joe maybe?”

“No... Joe is fine with us now.” I smiled

“I knew he would be pathetic and join you, tell him I plan on killing him as well”

“I will... but you’re still forgetting something”

“What would that be” he said irritated

“You’re messing with a pack, with a family, and if you go for one you go for all”

“Then I will kill you all” he spat on the ground “See you then Tilyer” he said as he ran off into the distance.

I felt guilty... I could have had him, I could have killed him, but it was an unfair fight, if I missed he would shift and kill me, and if I killed him now I would be no better than him, I would have killed him without warning, and he had arranged a date, so I would take him down then.

A twig snapped behind me , I spun round and pulled the knife out of my pocket before grabbing the persons neck and holding the knife to their neck.

“Tilyer, it’s me, it’s Chris” Chris said half choking, I quickly released him.

“Sorry, I thought you were someone Mark had hired to stab me in the back” I said as I put the knife away

“No, I heard the whole thing” Chris smiled, he too had shifted his eyes “What we need now is to sleep and then tomorrow we can make a plan ok?”

“Sure” I said as I shifted my teeth back. There was a paused of silence before I stepped forwards and starting walking.

“So...” I said as we began to walk back to camp “How are we going to take him down?” I asked

“I don’t know, he’s a bear, if we have a fair fight we risk the lives of everyone”

“True...” I paused “We could try to trap him?”

“How?”

“Well... I don’t know, maybe if we could hurt him a bit without getting close, like traps or spikes, impair him a bit, stop him being at his fullest, then if we could lure him out somehow and kill him... I don’t know this is all just ideas”

“Well... how about we work all this out tomorrow morning” Chris suggested.

“Sure...” I didn’t really see the point of planning now, we would need everyone.

We walked the rest of the way in silence and as we arrived at Camp Ashley and Zoe were standing outside; they must have woken up after us.

Ashley ran towards me and hugged me.

“Are you ok?” she asked worried

“I’m fine, but the pack isn’t” I said slowly

“How so?”

“Mark has arranged when the big fight will go down, and he will try to kill everyone if he needs to”

“Well fuck him” Ashley snapped “We’re going to fight together as a family, and we will kill him.”

“That was my idea all along” Chris smiled “Now we just need to know what Mark said” Chris said as he looked at me.

“Why don’t we all just go back to sleep and Tilyer can explain all this tomorrow?” Zoe yawned

“I agree, I kind of want to sleep” I said, and truthfully I did.

“Ok, well, night guys” Ashley said as she held my hand

“Talk tomorrow” I said as I turned and headed for my cabin, I still had my eyes shifted and I noticed Joe standing in his doorway, I nodded at him and he nodded back. As Omega I guessed he didn’t really want to interrupt too much and therefore kept his distance a bit.

When we were finally back in our room I took my shirt and shorts off before going back into bed with Ashley. I kissed her goodnight for the second time and she soon fell asleep.

My mind was plagued with the thought of Mark and how to kill him; I couldn’t stand the thought of anyone getting hurt.
