Dinner for Four

So after having kissed Ashley and asked her out she had gone back to her room to get ready whilst I got the hunt all planned out. After 30 minutes of thorough planning Ashley came back and we sat an talked for a while... and kissed once or twice.

Chris had come back with Zoe about 2 hours after the initial meeting we had and then we all talked for a bit whilst discussing our lives and what we thought our parents were thinking. To be honest I didn’t really mind much anymore, this was my life now and I couldn’t change it, even if I had the choice I don’t think I would change it.

We ended the night with pancakes and fizzy drinks. I was surprised they had never tried nutella pancakes so I made them all try it, my only regret is that now they all love it and we may run out of it. We ended up staying up till past 2am and got up pretty late, well they did I didn’t.

Right now it was roughly 6pm... I think, I really wasn’t sure but the sun was low in the sky and the air temperature had fallen gently.

We were all standing round the campfire which wasn’t lit, all pretty much ready to go.

“So before we go...” Zoe started “Can we please give out ranks” she said rather smiley

“Sure.... ummm.... well.... since I'm alpha... and I'm going out with Ashley... do you two wanna be Beta’s?” I said not really sure what they would think, in all honesty I just wanted them to go out.

“AWESOME!” Zoe said smiling

“Thanks bro” Chris said

“No problem”

Chris and Zoe casually hugged and then turned back to look at me and Ashley. We were staring at them and I think they got my message.

“So, who asked who out?” I said as I sat back down

“I did.... but how the heck did you know?” Chris said surprised

“Wasn’t hard to guess” Ashley said as she sat next to me

“Yeah.... kind of obvious...” I added

“Oh... well yeah, he asked me out.” Zoe said slightly confused

We all sat in silence for a bit before I stood up again “OK, so do we all understand what we’re doing? We locate the deer, Chris and Zoe you take care of the rest of the herd if there is one, me and Ashley will push our prey away, once we have it isolated Chris and Zoe you guys take its legs, Ashley you help stabilise it whilst I go for the throat.”

“Why do you always get the throat?” Chris asked

“Because if it’s done wrong it suffers too much, you end up eating it alive, and I have a chance of being crushed.... plus I kinda like it.” I smirked

“Fine... well shall we all get ready?”

“Sure.” I said as I shifted on the spot

The others looked slightly uncertain for a bit and then all eventually shifted, Ashley was the first followed by Chris and then Zoe.

We all stood in a circle and howled. It was great, just, being us, being free, gave me a chance to realise how much this pack really meant.

I was the first to sprint off and when I did they all followed in a single line. It was only now that I truly felt like a leader. I almost instantly picked up the scent of deer and I looked back to check if anyone else had but they all seemed too busy looking elsewhere and not using their noses so I decided to just take them to the herd.

Luckily for us the herd were in an open field. I slowed down and eventually stopped at the boundary where the trees stopped. The others stood at my side and waited as I calculated which one we should go for. I quickly picked out a female who looked older than most of them but still looked pretty healthy.

I looked to my side and moved my head in a sort of nodding motion towards the field telling the others to follow, Chris understood because we had done this a few times before. Ashley and Zoe didn’t really get it.

I started to run and aimed directly for the female I spotted, Chris and Zoe quickly took the left and started to scare away the rest of the herd whilst Ashley and I forced her to move right away from the herd.

This time it had been easy, Chris and Zoe were back within seconds and I gave the heads up to start the attack.

Chris was the first to bite down and as he did the doe immediately slowed down and cried out in pain. Zoe grabbed the other leg and Ashley bit her side hard and kept her stable. Meanwhile I got in line and jumped at the throat, this may not be the best or most natural way to hunt but this was how I liked to hunt.

As usual I braced myself and bit as hard as I could, trying desperately to sever her spinal cord and if not crushing her windpipe. This hunt really did turn out to be easy, she simply collapsed, most likely due to shock and I managed to fall over without hurting myself.

I got back up, checked if she was still breathing and just to make sure bit her neck again and shook it violently. Once I was sure she was dead I stepped back to the sight of the others all just looking at me and waiting.

Chris, who knew how a pack hierarchy worked stepped aside and sat down waiting for me and Ashley to eat before he could dig in. I nodded to Ashley and together we both started to eat our well earned feast.

An hour passed and now we were all full and simply laying down enjoying the evening. The sun had set and it had been wonderful to just sit and watch it set with the pack, my friends, my family.

I was sitting next to Ashley who was resting her head on my shoulder and I honestly couldn’t think of a better place to be in right now.
