As we began to reach camp Ashley spoke again.
“Ok, go back to your cabin, get changed, and try to round up the others” she sounded urgent
“Sure, I’ll get Joe”
“Ok” she said as she turned right slightly and headed for her cabin.
I had left my cabin door open and ran through; I took a sharp turn and jumped up into the air as I entered my bedroom. I shifted in mid air and landed face down on my bed. I quickly rolled off and grabbed my clothes. I hurried up to get dressed before slipping on my shoes and running outside. I knew we had time but I really didn’t want to risk anything. Who knows what could happen in five minutes.
I didn’t run to Chris’s cabin, I ran to Joes. I knocked on the door and shouted.
“Joe, open the door, now” I waited. No reply.
“Alright I’m coming in” I said as I opened the door to find the cabin empty before realising he was with Chris and Zoe being taught about the pack. How could I be so stupid? I was the one who gave the task of teaching to Chris and Zoe.
“Damn it” I said to myself before turning around and running towards the main hall.
Ashley left her cabin at the same moment and ran towards me.
“Hey, they in their cabins?” she asked
“Nope, in the hall” I said as I jogged towards the hall.
The doors were wide open and I could hear them discussing something, I don’t know what they were discussing but it was to do with the pack, why wouldn’t it be? Joe was studying. Ashley and I walked into the hall to find Chris and Zoe one side of the table with Joe on the other. They had a sheet of paper in front of them with some stuff scribbled down on it. Each one of them had a pen in their hand ready to write something down, or draw, depending on who it was who would be doing the writing.
“Oh, hey Tilyer” Chris said as I walked in
“Heys, we have to talk, everyone, now” I said in a hurry
“Is it Mark?” Joe said quietly
“Yeah...” I said slowly wondering if he knew what had happened, or if something had “Do you know anything?”
“No... But if it’s that urgent, the only reason I can think of is him so.... um, yeah” he replied cautiously
“Well it is him, he stepped over the boundaries of our territory and killed a deer... well... a buck, and you know how important they are to us. Only thing is he tore it up so bad its insides were everywhere and well... it wasn’t pretty. Looked a bit like a Jack the Ripper murder, only animal style.
“Where did you find it?” Zoe asked
“South east area, lying in a pool of its own blood... Not too far off the boundary, must be what... quarter mile away from the east boundary and a bit less than that from the south boundary?” Ashley said looking at me
“Yer sounds about right” I replied
“Why?” Chris said confused “Why kill our prey on our territory”
“I’m guessing a warning, or to piss us off” I said as I took a seat “He wants me dead, don’t know about you guys, but he wants me dead.”
“He tries to kill you Tilyer and he has to kill all of us...” Joe said looking at me, everyone stared back at him, almost stunned by his comment, this was the guy who tried to kill me twice “We’re a pack right? It’s like family, and I’m sure no one here is going to let you fight him alone, you’re our Alpha Tilyer, and we need you”
“Thanks Joe” I smiled at him, I was grateful of his comment, it meant a lot to me, especially since this came from the Omega, but it was nice.
“Joe’s right” Chris said “We’ve been through enough shit you and I, and we aren’t going to end like this, not without a fight” he smiled
“True” I smiled back “We’re family now, we stick together”
“Mark isn’t going to take us on yet” Joe said suddenly, his eyes wide open as if he had just remembered something very important “His old plan included tormenting you, I think he may have kept that part of his plan”
“Well that’s great” Zoe said sarcastically
“Yeah well it’s Mark, he likes that kind of stuff” Joe said quietly “If I know Mark, I don’t think he’s going to make another move for a bit, maybe after tomorrow in the morning at the latest, he doesn’t have enough patience to make another move later than that, but he won’t make another before at least tomorrow morning.” He said fiddling with his pen.
I sat back and started to think, everyone was staring at me, we needed a plan.
“Ok... well here is what we’re gonna do, Chris and Zoe you guys keep educating Joe. Ashley and I will go start to prepare dinner for later, I hope homemade pizza is ok. Then we will gather up some wood, once you guys are done, go rest, have a shower whatever, and at around seven ish, we can start to cook the pizzas, on the campfire, we can finally use the grill Chris and I bought last time we went shopping.”
“So that’s what it was for” Zoe said suddenly “I knew it wasn’t a useless piece of junk you guys would buy”
“Thanks Zoe” I laughed “Anyway, after that I will need to talk to you guys, I have some news about how we can communicated as wolves, but first off, I’m have to do something”
“Sure thing” Chris said smiling
“Right, well... thanks Joe for the info, see you guys later, and” I paused “Stay on guard and watch yourselves” I stood up and walked out.
Ashley followed me out and grabbed my hand.
“So that’s it?” she asked confused
“What do you mean?”
“We’re on guard?”
“Yup... more like red alert but still” I said holding her hand and walking towards my cabin.
“So what are you gonna do now” she said as we walked into my room
“Research” I replied whilst lifting up my book and sitting down on my bed “We’re gonna find out how the hell we are able to talk to each other as wolves”
“Sounds like fun” she said before kissing me and sitting down next to me.
I flipped open the book and searched for the chapter of communication as Ashley sat in silence, I didn’t care about the fire wood, nor the dinner for tonight, pizzas can wait, this... not so much, I’m too curious to wait.
