VICTOR'S VILLAGE
Fan addition to the Hunger Games
By: Katelyn Cyril and Acacia Grose
Chapter 1
The aroma of Peeta's warm bread filled the District 12 air. Early morning birds chirped and tweeted. Buttercup was curled up on the mat, his claws scratching the floor as he stretched. My favorite bow and arrow sat in front of me on the shelf Peeta built above the fireplace. It ws peaceful in the large warm house.
I sat on the rocking chair that was in my Victor's Village house and curled up in my father's jacket. I thought about all of my victories that I've came across over the past few years. Winning the Hunger Games with my husband and also getting chosen to fight in the ticking tock of the Quarter Quell gave me agonizing pain.
There were other ones too such as fighting in the war against the Capitol as the Mockingjay, killing President Snow and President Coin just a couple months ago. But for now I didn't want anymore kiling or fighting.
Then there were the struggles. The struggles of losing my sister, Prim, in a bombing, getting Peeta's mind back to reality and dealing with the nightmares of my days in the arena. Gale left to another district. He got some fancy job at District 2. I guess that means his job is more important than his best friend. I sometimes quiver when I hear his name and wonder if he ever thinks about me to. Or about coming back to me.
I remember Finnick and Annie's wedding and how delighted they were to spend their lives together, but Finnick died tragically on the journey to the Capitol. Now Annie had their little baby boy, so he got her mind off of Finnick's death. The poor child didn't even get to see his father's face. Better that, than to see him in the condition that he was in before he died. If he were still alive he would WISH he was dead.
It took many participants to restore District 12 to its regular form. They rebuilt the Seam and lots of people started coming back from 13. Everything was innovative and more fancy-like. There was an electronic scale sent to weigh meats from the Capitol, new mining uniforms for people who work in the coal mines, and excellent hospitals that have no waiting line what-so-ever. My mother was promoted to a job at the hospital.
They put up a new and repaired wired fence with maximum voltage. They are turned on 24/7. It would be complicated to sneak away with the high voltage and barbed wire. I was given a key, in honor of saving all children from the pain of the Hunger Games, which allows me to go out into the woods to hunt without getting shocked or hurt in any way which I am happy about considering before I had to be sly and sneaky in order to get in the woods.
They also built a new bakery for Peeta. He loves it a whole lot. It is equip with the best stove in the district. He could make a dozen cinnamon rolls in 5 minutes flat.
"See you, love", Peeta called from the kitchen where he was making his famous cheese buns. "I'm going to rent a tux for Prim's funeral"
We didn't have enough money to have Prim's funeral until now, which was five months after she died. Peeta and I have been saving up our money and not wasting it on stupid things that we didn't need.
I met him at the front door and he kissed my forehead. "Come on, Sweetheart", Peeta said in his best imitation of Haymitch. "I know that it's hard for you, losing your sister and all. I'm so sorry that I wasn't there to help her. She's in a better place now"
Suddenly I felt so infuriated! I balled my fists and gnashed my teeth. I could feel the hairs on my neck standing up. "Enough sympathy! You don't know what it's like to lose a family member!"
"Oh really, Katniss?! Considering that my whole family died here, in district 12!", Peeta said with frustration written across his face.
For a moment, there was only silence and us glaring at each other. I should've thought about that before. His whole family died. Only my sister did. But that still didn't change anyhting. Peeta open the door, walked out, and slammed the door behind him. The flowery wreath that hung above the door crashed down to the floor. I could see Peeta walking, jogging, and now running away. The fog played tricks on my eyes, as Peeta's figure started to vanish and the house grew lonely.
