The service was just about over, but they didn't lower Prim to the ground yet. We barged in when my mother was paying her condolences by giving a speech about her beloved daugter. Heads were turned, staring straight at us. They were wondering why the sister of Primrose Everdeen was late for her sister's funeral. My mother stopped talking and had a smile on her face. She doesn't know about anythig that has happened to Gale. I need to find a pleasant way to adress it to her. We both know that she approves of Gale more than Peeta. The truth is, I don't even know why I let Peeta come back with me. I just can't live without him. Just like how I can't live without Gale. It's like a game of tug-of-war. They are boh pulling me closer to them, but I am still stuck in the middle, moving nowhere.
We took our seats in the back row. By then, all of the heads were faced forward and paying attention to my mother who continued with her speech.
"I remember the day of her first Reaping. She had her little ducktail popping out of her skirt. I had just fixed her hair and she was all set. She didn't like how she looked, wanting to be like her sister, Katniss. We told her that she was beautiful, but she didn't believe it. She was still paranoid about the Reaping"
I could see Mother starting to get emotional. She is holding back the tears and we all know it. She started to continue with her speech.
"My poor baby was terrified when they called her name. I am so glad that my other daughter volunteered for her"
Excuse me. She didn't even care about me dying, she only cared about Prim. Now she's gone!
The thought made me start to battle the tears and Peeta can see that I was about to lose that battle. He put his arm around me and squeezed me tightly. He whispered sweet words into my ear. "Stay strong, you've fought way to much to start crying now"
I looked up at him and our eyes met. "I will" I replied. I wasn't quite sure of this, but I know that Peeta will help me through this, one step at a time. Gale doesn't make me feel the same way Peeta does. Peeta's voice is full of promise, but Gale's assures me that I'll always be safe with him. I have to make up my mind. It was either Gale or Peeta, but for right now, I'm just stuck.
As the speeches wrapped up, my mother, Peeta and I had to start getting outside, since we are the "family" of Prim. Peeta held the door for my mother and I, then let himself through.
When everyone else came to the graveyard, they started to lower her casket down to the Earth. The rest of the day was just a blur. I probably cried so badly that I forgot all about it. I wish I could just forget the whole day. And just go on with my life, but miracles rarely happen. Especially in my life.
