Three Weeks Later

Paradise rolled over on the opposite side of her king sized bed, stretching her short arms out. The moment she had done so, however, a loud grunt came from beside her, and she peeled her eyes apart to see her hand resting over her husband's gaped mouth.

"Damn Paradise, watch where the fuck you swinging." His words left his lips with a frustrated tone evident in each letter, urging the woman to pull the limb to her side, quickly; as if it had been shot with a sudden feeling of pain.

She felt him shift against their bed for a brief moment, before her dainty hand touch the cold white sheets beneath her.

"Sorry." Paradise threw the linen material off of her body, stepping onto the tiled floor. Glancing at her rose gold phone placed on the nightstand beside her, Paradise frowned.

She could see the contact name saved as 'Mommy' flashing across her screen, and she sighed contemplating on whether or not she wanted to be badgered by her mother at 8:30 in the morning.

"You ain't gonna answer yo phone?"

Paradise turned her head slightly, watching as Zebediah walked around their shared room, shortly after, occupying the vacant spot beside her.

She could feel his body's heat radiating onto her caramel skin, and his dark brown eyes boring holes into her side profile.

"Nuh, mi can't be bothered with her. All she guh ask is if I'm pregnant yet, and how did it feel, and blah blah blah." Paradise entwined her fingers in her hair, as she huffed, listening to the continuous buzzing of her phone.

"Mi know this may be weird, but mi need ta know. Why didn't yuh have sex 'wit' me after we got married?"

Her jet black curls bounced around her face, as she trailed her eyes to Zebediah. She could see his body stiffen beside her the moment their eyes met four.

Shrugging, Zebediah averted his gaze to the plain white wall in front of them.

"I just knew you weren't the type of girl to have sex with a man you barely knew, and married or not, I respect that."

Silence fell over the two, as Paradise smiled small, sliding her index finger over the white bar on her phone. Pressing the small speaker button on the screen, she heard the voice of her mother burst through the speakers.

"Paradise Senade Hamilton! Mi know yuh saw mi calling yuh this whole time, wuh yuh can pick up da phone nuh?"

Her accent came out thick, which much like Paradise only happened when she was angry or frustrated.

"Mummy, mi just nuh wake up." She slightly rolled her eyes as she saw Zebediah chuckle at her. He had an almost amused look on his face as he watched Paradise converse with her mother; intently.

"Yuh must have had likkle too much fun in the romping last night?"

A bright shade of red coated Paradise's face as she looked towards Zebediah to see him still listening to their conversation attentively.
