For her entire life, Paradise Hamilton has had no say in her own personal affairs. From a child she had grown up under the strict rules of her Caribbean parents.
But when the day finally arrived for her to wed a comple...
"Wuh happened?" Autumn's concerned voice filled the entire vicinity of the room as she stood on the opposite side of Paradise's phone screen. Every once in a while, her face would blur into a pixelated reflection as the two stared at one another, allowing their words to flow.
"He left." It had taken a large amount of courage for Paradise to utter the words she had. Yet still the moment they had left her lips, she could feel an even larger amount of her pride chip away.
"Yuh let him leave yuh?" The girl's eyebrows pulled themselves together involuntarily to form confused caterpillars as she watched her best friend intently. She could have sworn that merely days prior Paradise had been just as upset with the man she had wed, yet still; even after crying all night over their situation; still managed to reconcile with him and return home.
"Mi didn't have a choice, and Autumn yuh should have seen his face." Her final words came out solemnly as she dropped her head low, allowing the image of his appearance that night to scroll through her mind.
"Gyal fuck him! Dat wasteman got a whole woman pregnant while he was married tuh yuh."
Still after already knowing of the news, hearing them proclaimed verbally had hurt Paradise to her core. She allowed a frustrated sigh to escape her lips as she kept her head tucked low, fiddling with her coffin shaped finger nails.
She swallowed the large lump in her throat as she formulated her next words, feeling stupid that she'd even been placed in the kind of predicament she had been in while having to utter them.
"She a nuh the only one pregnant."
Upon hearing the sentence, Autumn's eyes snapped towards the camera's screen, averting her undivided attention to the woman before her. The last thing she had expected from her best friend, was a pregnancy announcement.
Autumn-Joy placed two fingertips against her temple as she rubbed it in gentle circles. She could no longer form any words to speak, further pulling Paradise to her highest level of self-disappointment.
She had managed to become pregnant, step outside of her marriage, and watch the man she married leave her all in the matter of weeks.
