This had to be what heartbreak felt like. Paradise was in a lonely place, one filled with the dreaded feeling of emptiness, and she hated it.

Her heart which pumped, too slow to sum up as normal; felt torn. Her brain plus thoughts, clouded with all too many things. The main non-factor being; her husband, whom she hadn't spoken to in seven days.

Not that Zebediah hadn't been attempting to converse with her, because he had, but unfortunately for him; Paradise had been doing everything in her power to ignore his undying efforts.

Until today; which on the calendar, marked an important one for The Carters. The 30th Annual Investors Ball, which for the first time in five years; Zebediah would be attending, accompanied by another, his wife; which unfortunately for Paradise, happened to be her.

"You ready?" From her peripheral view, Paradise could see Zebediah's agitated face peeking from behind their bedroom's door.

"As mi will evah be."

She descended a hand down her teal bandage dress, observing her final appearance.

If she were conceited she would say herself; "You look perfect

If she were conceited she would say herself; "You look perfect." Came verbally the thought she had held in, from the man she called her husband.

Again she refrained from responding to him, instead leading the way outside their abode. She wasn't upset, nor was she pleased with him. Paradise was at the fine line between the two.

Her heart would still thump behind her chest when he did so much as blink in her direction. Palms still sweat, when he touched her.

"Yo Paradise, you can't keep ignoring me and giving me the cold shoulder."

Paradise stopped in her tracks when she felt a tug at her arm; snapping around to face her 'husband' completely.

"Well if yuh didn't give mi a reason tuh ignore yuh, then mi wouldn't have tuh." She turned to walk away again, but was stopped mid-spin.

Zebediah took the final two steps towards her, eliminating any space they once had between them.

"Look at me." His voice sent tingles through her body, but she refrained, keeping her eyes on the wooden floor beneath them.

He placed a finger tip at the bottom of her chin, lifting her head until their eyes met four. "I apologize for doing you the way I did the other night. I didn't think my actions through at all and I understand that. I have the privilege of calling you my wife, and arranged or not; I have to respect, not only you but also this marriage. I shouldn't have left you that night and I apologize for even thinking it was okay to do so, but from now on even when we fuck up... we talk to one another. That means no ignoring me, and no walking around with sour ass attitudes aight?"
