We rushed home as quickly as we could, panicking about the future events. I wasn't as worried as the others because I knew that Niall was just a normal guy and we didn't really have to try to impress him. But as the girls tidied up the already-clean flat, I saw how worried they were. It kind of reminded me of when I had been getting ready for my date with Niall. I had been fixated on the fact that he was in my favorite band and that I had to get everything perfect. But as soon as we spent some time with the boys, the girls would realize that they didn't have to try.
"Okay, Amelia- give it to me straight. Do I look ugly?" Mattie stood in front of me, brushing her fingers through her long brown hair and fixing her shirt.
I jumped off of the stool where I had been lazing about and sighed. "Mattie you look perfect! You seriously don't have to worry at all! They are just five normal lads and it's nothing to freak out about- they'll love you instantly."
"Are you sure?" She asked hesitantly and stopped fidgeting with her outfit. "Are you really, properly sure?"
I laughed and gave her a hug. "Yeah, that's me. Really, properly sure that you look beautiful." I pulled away and turned to the others, who were swarming around the flat. "And that goes to you, too!"
They turned to me, their hands poised over shiny surfaces. It was so sad to see them so scared, and even sadder to know that they shouldn't be scared. Soon, they would see from my point of view.
"You are all perfect and once you meet the guys you will understand. They don't care if you have little quirks! What they really want is a breath of fresh air from the crazy fan girls; they just want to hang out with five normal girls that treat them like their five normal guys." I explained to them and they straightened, their bodies loosening.
"Alright- I can do that. I can do normal chic." Meredith sighed in relief and plopped down on the couch. "There we go! That's so much better."
"I dig it." Ariel proclaimed and jumped onto the other couch. She frowned slightly at the state of the clean room. After a few seconds of deliberation, she leaned over and picked up all the pillows, throwing them on the floor. "Much better. More homey."
"Alright. No more tidying." Janessa exhaled loudly and sat down on the coffee table. She smiled softly, almost as if she was slowly coming to the realization that she was going to meet the love of her life in a few hours.
Oh, that reminded me- we still had about an hour and a half to set up for the scary movie marathon with the boys. I turned to Mattie, who had quietly migrated to the kitchen and was snacking on some strawberries.
"Okay, we need to get the necessities done before they get here- that means films ready, windows covered, food out and couches set up. Mattie, you're good with this sort of thing. Could you be the boss lady?"
"Aye, aye, captain." She saluted me goofily. "I am no longer Mattie Locke- refer to me as big boss lady from now on."
"Okay big boss lady!" Meredith interrupted behind me and I heard Janessa laugh loudly. I didn't turn around, but smiled at Mattie who nodded.
"Okay," Mattie composed herself and began giving out instructions. "I'll order the food. I want Meredith to pick out the films and Janessa and Ariel to rearrange the couches and put some duvets and pillows on the floor. And you, dear Amelia, will go pick up the food once I've ordered it!"
"I only have my provisional!" I protested. I hadn't been bothered to get my full license because Mattie or Janessa were always there to drive me around.
"I'll go pick up the food." Janessa stepped forward and Mattie nodded.
"Alright, Janessa picks up the food and Amelia- you help Ariel move the stuff around. Oh, and when you're all done I want you to cover the windows with blankets to make it dark." We nodded and went our separate ways, Meredith to the film cupboard, Mattie and Janessa to the kitchen and Ariel and I to the couches.
