*Song is Austin by Blake Shelton*

She left without leavin' a number
Said she needed to clear her mind
He figured she'd gone back to Austin
'Cause she talked about it all the time

Jared laid on his bed as he stared at the ceiling. A deep burning pain filled his aching chest as he turned and faced the picture sitting on his night stand. It was an image of him and her that Emily had taken the night of the last bonfire he had attended. His arms were wrapped around her waist tightly and hers were wrapped around his neck with her face buried into his chest. The picture was the only thing he had left of her besides the memories. That was the last night she has seen him and the last time he had heard from her. So far it had been seven weeks, three days, nine hours, and 13 minutes since she had walked away from him. Since Mia Wyles backed away from him in fear and told him to stay away. Since Jared had told her that all the legends from the bonfire were true and that she was his imprint. His soul mate...

It was July 17th, 2006 and Jared was busy trying to keep his eyes from watching his only two packs mates with their imprints. Out of the three wolf pack he was the only one who hasn't found his soul mate. Sam, his alpha, had Emily Young and Paul, the third in command, had Iva Walker. But Jared, the beta, had no one. That is... until a volley ball soared through the sky and landed dead square in Jared's mile high plate of burgers. Ketchup, lettuce, meat, and buns flew into the air and covered the wolf who jumped so high that you would think he was a rocket. Everyone else just stared in shock before erupting in laughter, mainly Paul, which made him give out a low growl... until a voice spoke up behind him.

"Oh my god I am so sorry! Are you okay?! Oh god please tell me that isn't blood!" a girl appeared beside him and started fussing over him.

She had beautiful tanned skin and straight black hair pinned back with a silver moon pin. She had warm brown eyes that scanned him for any injuries. As she started wiping food off of him he was lost deep in her eyes. All he could think about was the way that Sam had described how imprinting felt, "It's not like love at first sight, really. It's more like... gravity moves... suddenly. It's not the earth holding you here anymore, she does... You become whatever she needs you to be, whether that's a protector, or a lover, or a friend.

"Oh god please don't have a concussion! Is this blood?!" she stuttered and grabbed his chin.

"Ketchup..." Jared mumbled as he watched her brows furrow in confusion.

"What?" she was absolutely bewildered.

"It's ketchup." Jared said again and looked at her in complete awe. Behind him his pack mates grinned happily as they realized what was happening to their friend.

But that was four months ago... and now she had left and he didn't know where to find his beautiful Mia. She had run off into the night after saying she needed to think. And that was it. The last time that he had seen his imprint or heard her voice. He hadn't gotten a text, an email, a letter, anything. Every time he called her he only got a message saying that it had been disconnected. His soul mate had run away from him and now Jared Cameron was dying inside. The pack didn't know what to do anymore. Sam had given him time now that nearly everyone else had phased, but he was seriously worried about his beta. He needed Jared back... So he took matters into his own hands in the form of trying to hunt down the elusive Miss Mia Wyles.

It was almost a year before she called him up
Three rings and an answering machine is what she got

Mia sat on the the old wooden fence of the east pasture as she watched her grandfather herd the cattle. She should be enjoying the heat of the Texas sun on her skin, but she just couldn't. The warmth reminded her of him. Like his embrace on cold nights at the beach or when he took her cliff diving and pulled her to his chest in the freezing water. He was all she could think about now. That and the pain she felt in her heart. She felt shattered being away from him. She felt alone and scared. The girl turned around and gave a sad smile as she heard her grandmother approach her with a glass of ice tea.
