after her conversation with Flaca's tia, Elisabeth by the way. Maritza walked back to their cube with her head held up high, feeling more confident about the two of them. She was stuck in her mind last week and now all this happened, maybe she's still in there even if it's in some dark corner in the back of Flaca's mind. she just gotta work on making Flaca think of her more often

"what'cu doing there?"

Maritza says as she approached the Dominican woman who was laying on the small girl's bunk reading a book her eyes glossy

"I'm not letting you sleep alone, I don't want to hear your stupid ass cry the whole night from my bunk so might as well"

Flaca says shrugging her shoulders her eyes never leaving the book she was reading

"you don't have to, I'll be fine"

Maritza says biting her lower lip and blushing as she thought she wasn't being heard

"I'm sorry, I didn't think it was that obvious"

Maritza says sitting at the edge of the bunk.

"it's not, I just know Maritza Ramos better than anyone in here so it was easy to notice"

Flaca says shrugging her shoulders once more her eyes moving as she read line after line, her eyes now letting go of a tear

"are you upset cause of Juliana? or your tia teasing you?"

Maritza asks after seeing Flaca remove her tear, she crawls to the back of the bunk, her head resting on her forearm as she read a few lines of the page Flaca was reading

"no, I mean I'm upset about that too. Juliana mostly, tia is always teasing me with you, but it's the book"

Flaca says closing it  and staring at the ceiling

"how could anyone use innocent girls to make money off them by selling them to someone? like what kind of psychopath does that?"

Flaca says  shaking her head from side to side

"the kind that prefers money than anything, my mother was like that"

Maritza giggles as she falls on her back now in the same position as the tall girl

"well yeah, but there's a difference from loving money and selling someone for sex to get money"

Flaca says, Maritza scoffs grabbing Flaca's attention

"you know I never planned on having a baby at 16 right?"

Maritza says looking at Flaca from the corner of her eye

"are you serious?"

Flaca says her voice shaky

"yeah, then I ran away. to my grandma's who contacted my dad and here we are, in prison for prostitution even if I was forced"

Maritza says smiling

"stupid fucked up system"

Maritza says letting out a giggle

"shit I had no idea"

"it's fine, I'm happy it happened. I mean I have Juliana and she's literally the best thing, hopefully I'll get to watch her grow"

Maritza says biting her lower lip holding her tears back

"you will get to see her grow, and she's going to become a beautiful woman and will have a good job and everything, cause she was raised right by her mama"

Flaca says playfully punching Maritza's shoulder

"yeah"

Maritza can't help but smile widely as she removed her own tears
