John's P.O.V
Soulmates are strange. People have mixed opinions on them. Some wish they didn't exist. Others dream of the day they would meet their soulmate.
How soulmates work is you are born into a dull grey world. Everything is dark and you can't see one splash of colour. Then if you are lucky enough you'll meet your soulmate and as soon as you share a kiss colour will be brought into your life.
It can be disappointing though. A lot of people have been in love with someone but when they kiss their world remains grey. Many have let that ruin their relationship. Some tend to fight through it because the universe can't always be right. Right?
I don't understand it. A long while back a girl called Martha kissed me and she saw colour... but I didn't. I was her soulmate but she wasn't mine. That doesn't make any sense to me.
Screw the universe. It gives a poor girl a soulmate who's gay. What the fuck. Martha and I are good friends to this day and luckily she as found someone else but still the universe deserves a kick in the balls for what it did to her.
I've strayed away from the idea of having a soulmate now the only guy I'm interested in has met his soulmate. Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler are each other's soulmates. Yet they didn't act on it. They only reason they kissed was because they were drunk. Still it was only a matter of time before they ran into each other's arm.
I'm not salty I swear.
It's just I wish soulmates didn't exist. I wish I could choose who to love on my own will.
"John!" I was snapped out of my thoughts as I looked up at my angry maths teacher.
Shit.
"Um ya?"
The class snickered a bit and ya teacher rolled her eyes.
"Care to answer the question?" She folded her arms and tapped her foot impatiently.
"I- um."
The class continued to laugh as my face flushed. A piece of paper was slid into my field of vision. It read the number fifty-seven.
"Um fifty seven?" I answered confusion laced in my voice.
The teacher raised an eyebrow "that's correct but try to pay more attention next time."
I nodded.
"Thanks man I owe you one" I whispered to the guy who gave me the answer.
"No problem" Lafayette smiled at me.
Lafayette and I had been friends since as long as I could remember. Him, me and Hercules Mulligan. We grew up together. They were the first people I came out to and the first I told about the whole Martha situation. I wasn't really surprised when they turned out to be each other's soulmates. The were pining after each other for years. The amount of rants I've heard.
Suddenly the bell rang and I quickly shoved everything into my bag and left the classroom with Laf. We went to the canteen and sat down at our usual table. Soon enough Hercules and Alex burst into the room being their usual loud selfs. Laf and I both gave a love sick sigh at the same time though directed to different people. Herc and Alex sat down. Alex beside me and Herc beside Laf.
"Hey babe" Herc said, kissing Laf on the cheek.
"Hey sweetie" Laf replied.
Alex and I both gagged jokingly. Herc and Laf rolled their eyes simultaneously.
"Don't hate on us because your deprived of love" Herc retorted.
"I'm perfectly happy with my sad life" Alex chuckled.
The Schuyler sisters and Maria approached the table and sat down.
"Sup sluts" Peggy greeted sitting down.
"Oh Peggy always a delight" I laughed.
"You love me."
Maria grinned "I sure do."
"Love makes me sick" Angelica cringed.
"Stop it Angie" Eliza smiled "I think it's cute."
"Thank you Eliza" Peggy grinned "this is why your my favourite sister."
"Hey!" Angelica yelped.
"Family bonding" I stated.
To soon the bell rang signalling all of us to go to class.
"Fuck" I mumbled standing up "See you guys."
The group all said goodbye in different variations. Before I could walk away Alex grabbed my arm. I blushed dark and looked back to see him blushing too.
"Um Alex?"
"John can I talk to you after school please?" Alex asked.
"Uh ya sure no problem" I answered.
He then let go of my arm and quickly shuffled away from me, waving goodbye slightly. I stood their in shock for a good three seconds before walking to class.
I couldn't concentrate in class for the entire day. I was extremely nervous on what Alex wanted to tell me. Why was it so important that he couldn't tell me at lunch. Was it private? Jesus he probably just wants me to help him study. I shouldn't be so nervous.
Once school ended I waited outside for Alex. When he showed up he led me to a secluded area.
"Listen John I've been wanting to tell you something for a really long time" Alex started.
I nodded "okay."
"But then when Eliza and I became soulmates I didn't think I could tell you."
Now I was really confused what did Eliza have to do with us.
"But I can't keep it in any longer" Alex continued "John I'm in love with you."
My eyes widened.
"And I know you don't feel the same way but I just needed to get that off my chest."
"Alex I" I hesitated "I feel the same way."
He smiled "you do?"
"I do" I nodded "but Eliza."
"What about her?"
"She's your soulmate" I reminded him "you can't just abandon her."
Alex frowned "John I wasn't supposed to tell you this because it's a secret but Eliza has a girlfriend."
"She does?"
"Yes John" Alex nodded "let's face it the universe is fucked up it get's things wrong all I know is I love you and I don't want the universe to get in the way of that."
I smiled "I don't either."
He gently placed his lips against mine and suddenly the world exploded in colour. Despite that I shut my eyes to sink into the kiss.
Once we broke apart Alex grinned at me "John?"
"Ya?"
"Your better than a soulmate."
I smiled as I reconnected our lips.
