"Very good, Travis!" Ms. Ranae ruffles up my hair and my mother claps softly. Father is now sitting in his chair in the living room reading the paper.

He doesn't congratulate me for getting through a whole song, but he always made sure to make a small 'tsk' noise when I messed up.

I smile at Ms. Ranae, fold up the music, and set it down on a box beside my piano. Our hour is pretty much up.

"Be sure to keep practicing for next time, Travis," She chirps out before leaving. I stay seated at the piano for a moment.

"..Father?" He hums in acknowledgment, "Would you like to hear some gospel I've been working on aside from my lessons?"

He just grunts and doesn't respond for a few seconds.

"Yes," He sets his paper down and turns to face me.

I gulp and pull out the sheet music for a fairly catchy gospel song. As far as religious songs go, this is one of my favorites.

I begin to play and I hear Mother starting to hum along to the beat as she knows the lyrics. My fingers slip a few times and I hear him grunt, but I try to just focus on the music.

I play the last note and look over at him. He unfolds his paper again, "You need to keep practicing," My smile falls and I go upstairs.

"Travis," He gets my attention and I go back downstairs to face him.

"Y-yes, father?" I fold my hands behind my back.

His face is lack of any emotion, "Tomorrow we have an important church meeting," He looks at me with a strong gaze, "Dress sharp, and do not wear that ugly purple tie," His gaze sharpens.

"Yes, sir," I go back upstairs.

Don't wear that purple tie, Travis. Purple is a girl's color, Travis. Wear that nice black tie with your crisp white button up, Travis, look like a respectable  man.

I snarl and clench my fists. He's told me about this meeting before, and apparently I'm supposed to make a speech about how good my life is here.

Good life my ass.

I look over to my bookshelf and one book sticks out. I hesitantly grab it and a pen.

Hey, you there?

I set it aside while I wait for a reply.

Sal's POV

I woke up an hour ago with a splitting headache. Lisa came home and closed the door a little too loud, so I woke up.

Larry's still asleep, so I just left. I can't go back to sleep, so I'm just sitting on my bed when I see my Lover's Booklet shine a bit. Not too noticeable if I wasn't paying attention.

I smile and pick it up, seeing the message from him.

yeah wassup b

Travis' POV

I hear Dad yelling downstairs, but I can't make out what it's about. Probably bills.

Eh, currently wanting to not exist.

what happened?

We have this stupid church meeting tomorrow and I'm supposed to say a stupid speech about how dandy my life is living with an 'active church-goer as he puts it.

I could try, but if it doesn't work, I would probably get beat for lying.
