Daily mail just piled up on the corner of the counter, things addressed to him such as more military papers and things addressed to her like sympathy greeting cards with cheesy poems inside to express their condolences. Days passed, then weeks, and even a few months before Amy got up the courage to go through his belongings. She would sit on her couch, looking at all the pictures they'd taken and all the notes and momentos they'd shared in their time together, even the time they were still in school. It made her happy, but not happy enough.

    Aj was dead.

    Her Aj.

Amy was drowning in her own pain and tears as she spent her lonly days cooped up inside her, once full of energy, now pain and sorrow filled dwelling. Amy hadn't talked to anyone since the day she had the conference with the USMC Colonel and the preist. She was becomming more and more depressed, as if everyone had forgotten she was even there. That is, until a knock at her front door startled her from bed one morning.

With a heavy heart, Amy drudged through her house, down the stairs, and to the door. Amy's mood was completly lifted when she opened the door and saw Tanner, Aj's best friend from high school. Tanner just simply smiled and opened his arms for a hug, only to have Amy throw herself into his arms. Standing in the doorway crying and hugging was the hardest thing to do since the last time she'd been in contact with anyone. Tanner lightly stroked Amy's long brunette hair and constantly reassured her that everything was going to be alright. Amy sobbed for a few moments then invited Tanner into her home.
