I feel hands shaking my body, and I groan and try to stay asleep. 'Cassie, I know you can hear me, you need to wake up. We have too much work for you to sleep again.' I physically groan and roll over in Sam's arm. I flutter my eyes open and look up into his eyes. I frown and wrap my arms around his waist. I vaguely remember that there are other people here and I pull myself up from my position in Sam's lap. I unwrap my arms from around him. I look around at the faces in the room.
"How long was I asleep?" I look to Rex, then to Vasilissa. They both shrug.
"We slowed down time so it wasn't very long. We don't have a lot of time, and we wanted to make it as short as possible." Sam shakes his head.
"Since they slowed time down, it was only a couple minutes." I pull myself into a more comfortable sitting position and rub my temples.
"Why do I keep passing out? I've never had this problem before." I move my head down between my knees to try and slow the pounding. Sam's warm hand comes to rest on my back and moves in circles.
"If I had to guess, I would say it is because you are not acclimated to your new powers yet." Rex says, motioning finger quotations around the word, 'powers'.
"If I had to guess, I would say that her emotions are heightened. They have been the last two times she awoke. Katherine and Kai have that effect on her. They make her unstable." I sit back up, Sam's hand still resting on my back.
"I really wish someone could tell me something positive about my alleged twins of doom. I don't want my own children to be the death of life as we know." Rex shakes his head.
"Kai always was a momma's boy. He loves you very much, and he tries to be a good kid, but his sister is such a bad influence. I'm not saying that Katherine is all bad, but she is definitely the worst of your quote-on-quote evil children." I sit back and just reflect on how bizarre of a day this has been. First, there was Sam, then there was my mother, who isn't actually my mother, but is actually my daughter, and then the twins that could wipe out all life on the planet, and many other kids I don't even know about. I glow when I get emotional. I can hear another person's thoughts in my head. He's probably listening to my deranged rant as I speak to myself. The chuckle that comes from Sam confirms my suspicion and I frown.
"As entertaining as your inner monologue is, you are right that today has been a really weird day. It's been a lot of information and we should give you time to absorb. We really should, but we are so limited for time because you have aged more slowly than usual this life. Katherine and Kai only come into power when you do. They are tied very tightly to you. Last life, Kai was looking for a way to separate the bond, but I believe that Katherine trapped him in a glass orb before he truly had the chance." I shake my head.
"These glass orbs seem inhumane if you ask me. I don't like the idea that my people are all trapped for such long amounts of time. With no one else to interact with." Sam's aura shines a tad brighter when I refer to them as 'my people'. He has a wide smile on his face.
"We understand, we really do, but we can't have immortals running rampant. We have to keep them corraled or they could cause problems." Vasilissa pipes up. I bow my head and nod.
"I understand, Vasilissa." Her name makes a funny taste in my mouth and I just don't feel too right calling her something so formal, that's not "Mom". Vasilissa notices my discomfort.
"If you like, you can call me Vasi or Lissa. I prefer the nicknames actually." I give her a grateful smile.
"I call her Vasi, you typically called her Lissa." Rex says.
"Lissa it is." She smiles back at me. I love the bonding that is going on, but we seem to have a more important matter that we should be getting to. The smile falls off my face and I mentally harden myself so we can get to the important task. If we are going to do this I can't constantly be passing out from my emotions. It's like middle school all over again. I wring my hands together and Sam places his on top of mine, a gentle wave of calm passing through us. I look from Rex to Lissa, and I nod my head. "I believe we have some work to do." Rex looks down at a complex looking watch on his hand.
