The Light

My sleep is filled with total bliss. My soul has never felt so at peace. I feel myself being held in a strong and warm embrace. It's a shame that I ever have to wake up. I feel my eyes begin to flutter open and I take in the surroundings. I'm in my bed, the sky blue sheets a wonderfully soothing color to wake up to. I knew I felt something holding me in my sleep, but I wake up alone in my bed. I move my hand to pick up the blankets and my fingers hit a piece of paper. I grab it and open it up, squinting from the light that suddenly erupts from it. I close it quickly and rub my eyes. I look to the clock beside my bed and it says 3:30 a.m. Way too early for me, but I don't think I can get back to sleep anytime soon. There's still way too much that I need to know.

I pull the blankets back and swing my legs over the side of my bed. My feet hit a pair of slippers and I grin to myself. Mom knows how I love my slippers and she must of put them there while I was sleeping. I slip my feet into them and smile. Oh how I wish things could stay this simple, but I have a gut feeling that everything is about to change, and in some ways, not for better. The smile fades from my face as I walk out of my room, and follow the dull light coming from somewhere downstairs. It leads me into the the living room, where my mother and Sam are sitting quietly on the couch, with the t.v. playing in the background.

"Have a good nap Cass?" Sam turns and looks at me, standing in the doorway. I smile softly and move around to the front of the couch.

"Yeah, it was actually some of the best sleep I've had in a very long time. A giant grin comes to Sam's face.

"I was hoping you were liking the dreams I was sending to you." I tilt my head in confusion and just slightly shake my head. What is that supposed to mean?

"You know what, I don't really want to know what you mean by that. Save that for later. I still have so many questions for the both of you." I pull the note out of my pocket that I found under my sheets. "Could we possibly start with this and why I was blinded by it when I opened it?" My mother and Sam both reach out for the note at the same time, and both draw their hands back, deciding to give me the choice. I hand the paper to my mom, and a slight grimace crosses Sam's face. 'You could've trusted me Cass'. Sam's voice comes into my head, like it was sent through a loudspeaker. I flinch slightly and let go of the note, giving it to my mom. She opens the note and instantly shields her eyes. She mutters something under her breath and the glow suddenly dims. She moves her hand away from her eyes, and seconds after beginning to read the note, her hand covers her mouth.

"Mom? Whats wrong?" I move to her side, pulling her into me. She quickly folds the note and moves it away from me. She pulls me into her arms and lets out a large sigh.

"Oh Cassie, nothing is wrong, it's actually very well." She pulls back from me and hands the note to Sam. He opens it and begins to read. "Vasilissa, I can't read this." His eyes darken and then any and all remaining light on the piece of paper floats up and goes into his eyes. He looks at my mother and me, a golden glow illuminating his eyes. I gasp under my breath and marvel at his eyes. He looks at me in confusion.

"Why are you two looking at me like that?" Sam's eyes move back and forth from my mother and me, stopping at mine, with a total look of confusion.

"You don't feel anything different?" My mother moves out from behind me and kneels in front of Sam. A mirror appears in her hand and she puts it in Sam's hand. He looks into the mirror, and his look of confusion stays.

"Golden eyes? What does this mean Vasilissa?" He sets the mirror down, and his hands tighten into fists. The only vibe he is throwing off right now is fear, and I feel it so strong, I'm fearful too, but I don't know what I have to fear. Guess it's a side effect of the whole memory sharing thing.

"Oh Sam, it's a great sign. You can make her remember!" My mother claps her hands together excitedly. Sam and I just sit there, more and more confusion coming from both of us. Isn't he supposed to be an all knowing assistant or something? Wow, I sound like an asshole. I've got to stop that. Sam suddenly laughs and turns to me.

"With all the thinking you've been doing, you've remembered many times that we can feel and hear each other all the time, but yet you still have completely no filter in your mind." He smiles slightly, and I find myself smiling too. My mother sighs in content.

"I just can not wait for her to remember you, Sam. You two were the happiest people ever together. You could warm any cold heart." I smile awkwardly and move back away from both of them. That sounded just a tad creepy, but I was beginning to be able to roll with creepy and weird, but that was a little overboard. I quickly search for a way to change the subject.

"So what happened? Why did the light go into his eyes?"

"See for yourself, Cassie. After all, you were the person that weaved the spell on this paper." She holds the paper out for me, and I take it with a shaky hand. I open the note and look at the jumbled mess in confusion. I can't make out a single word, because they are all moving at speeds that should not be possible. Hell, the words on a piece of paper shouldn't be moving at all. My mother and Sam sense my struggle. Sam's hands move to cover my shaking ones. He pulls the paper down slightly so I have to look into his eyes. I stare into them for a moment, and he tells me exactly what I have to do. He smiles as I move the paper back into my line of vision. I look at the words and will them to slow down. One by one, the words move into place.

'Those who have lost,

Those who have found

They have been apart for far too long

Read these words,

And you will find that you've always known,

But chose to forget.

Bring yourself to believe,

bring yourself to love,

And you will remember anything your heart desires.'

The words finally stop moving and I gasp at the tiny words that appear at the bottom. My signature appears and I break my eyes away from the piece of paper, sucking in a breath as I do. That's all I have to do? Is truly believe? I thought I did, and I don't understand why the memories haven't come back yet. Sam senses my distress and pulls my hands into his firm grasp.

"Don't worry my dear Cass. You can do anything you set your mind to." He smiles gently and I fall into his open arms. I open my eyes and look at my mother, who is literally beaming. She mouths 'I love you' as she gets up and walks away. Right before she leaves the room, she turns her head and winks at me. She blows a kiss and I feel my face burn slightly. I gently pull myself out of Sam's embrace and give him the warmest smile I can manage. His eyes crinkle and his smile literally lights up the room.

A tiny feeling flares up in my chest and a burning sensation follows. I have the burning need to feel his lips on mine again, and he gives me a heated look. His gaze burns with a fiery passion that I've never seen so powerful before. The feelings between us multiply when I let my soul reach out to his, and the heat in his soul, makes me feel like I could burst into flames. His eyes burn into mine, the golden glow trapping me. I put my hands on his face and moving with intensity, his hands reach behind my head and pull us together. Our lips touch and the golden light behind my eyes explodes. It's bliss like I've never felt. The passion flowing through him to me makes me melt and lose any composure I might have had left. Our lips move in sync and we slowly lose ourselves to each other.
