Cassie

When I fall back under a sleeping spell, instead of the chilling void, I am greeted by Mara. She stands in a green grove. There's a stone bench a couple feet behind her. The grove is filled with bright green trees and aromatic flowers. The flowers are strung on garlands between the trees. A light is emitting from behind Mara, making her glow with an other-worldly light. She smiles and I walk over to her, letting out a sigh of relief.

"Alastair said you might need to talk? Do you want to talk, I'm here for you Cassie." She smiles encouragingly, motioning for me to come and sit with her on the bench. We sit down together and she waits in silence for me to say something. I attempt to gather my composure but doubt that it will be strong for very long. I reach for her hands and she grabs mine gently. I take a deep breath.

"Alastair said that I have become an immortal, " but before I get to finish my sentence her hands slip out of mine. My hands hover in the air, as I sit there confused. Her eyebrows knit together.

"But how is that possible? Alastair said he didn't detect any traces of Freya left in you." I drop my hands into my lap as her eyes search my face. She sees that my mouth was still open. "Oh you weren't finished. There's more?" I nod. "Okay, go ahead. I'll stay quiet this time." She stretches out one of her hands, and I take it, squeezing. She motions for me to continue. I take another deep breath to steady myself.

"There was no traces of Freya left. I am an immortal on my own." She raises her hand. Smirking.

"Another question, I'm sorry. There's only one way for a human to become immortal." As the pieces click in her head, her face goes white and her eyes drop to my stomach. She looks back up at my face, in complete shock. "You're PREGNANT?" She practically screeches in my ears and I flinch from the volume. I nod my head and somehow her eyes widen even more. She sits there with a blank look on her face, processing everything.

"You're certainly taking this better than I did." I stifle a laugh when she shakes her head.

"Man Sam, worked fast. You two have barely known each other for a week." She puts a hand to her mouth, stopping herself from laughing. We both start laughing uncontrollably and I feel the laughs shaking my whole body. We look to each other and start laughing even harder. We continue laughing for a minute and then I stop to try and catch my breath. I take a couple deep breaths and tears begin to form in my eyes and I start to lose any composure I had left. Mara sobers and stares at me intensely.

"Mara, I'm pregnant, and Sam never wants to look at me again." Her hands come to rest on my arms, as my body begins to shake. I feel myself begin to fall apart again, and Mara quickly pulls me into her. I bury my head in her chest and let the tears flow freely. She rubs my back soothingly, letting all the pent up emotions from the past few days flow out of me. Minutes later, when my tears finally stop flowing, I sniffle into her shirt. My fists knot into her shirt and I feel like I am breaking at the seams. My entire world has been uprooted in less than a week, and it's all Sam's fault. I pull away from Mara, pulling my sleeves over my hands and wiping under my eyes. My cheeks burn from the tears, and my nose runs. I look up into Mara's eyes and she smiles, and I attempt to smile back at her.

"You can't tell anyone, okay? You and Alastair are the only people that can know." She nods.

"Of course. You can trust me with anything, Cassie." I smile.

"Alastair told me I could trust you. I don't think I could ever really hide anything from him anyway." She laughs lightly.

"You're right about that. In dreams and telepathically is the closest thing you have to privacy from Alastair. I'm always glad that he chose to use his powers for good." I nod in agreement. That's for sure.
