"You two truly are crazy. I can't believe this." Sam looks at me in horror. His horror quickly turns to rage."How could you possibly think I'm crazy after all the things that I've told you? After all the things that I've shown you?" I clench my fists, feeling a new level of rage boiling in my chest.
"How dare you try to make me feel bad about this! You people are making absolutely no sense and you just expect me to be okay with everything this soon? Not even an hour ago, I turned to gold dust particles, Because you claim that I'm some sort of glorified time traveler? I've asked you so many questions and you've somehow deflected every one of them. I just want to know what is going on, and why the hell you came out of a glass ball!" I cut myself off before I get anymore angry and seriously hurt someone. I feel my fists getting tighter, and something is burning red hot in my chest. Sam turns away from me and he is visibly shaking. I don't know whether he is shaking from fear or anger though. But I don't think he would be scared of me.
"Cassie, sweetie, listen to me. I can tell you everything that you need to know. You also need to calm down, before you jump somewhere and can't get back, you're not able to control yourself yet." Her eyes make their way down to my hands, and she starts to extend her hands towards mine. I look down at my hands and they are glowing a blinding gold. I stare at my hands in horror and try to make them stop glowing. The glow only spreads up my arms and travels to a spot over my heart. Sam turns back towards me as my mother gasps.
"Cassandra don't move." I glare at Sam. He flinches. "I'm sorry, I forgot. Cassie, you need to stay as still as possible and don't let that glow fade, pour all your energy into it, focus all your energy into your core. I need to do something, and you can't be afraid of me." My mother moves out of the way, and Sam takes her place. He moves his hands over my heart and begins to push them down gently. He closes his eyes and mummers under his breath. The glow begins to bleed out of me into Sam's hands. He continues until the glow has completely left my body, and it is situated gently in his hands. He takes a step back away from me and my mother puts her hands over Sam's and they say some sort of incantation under their breath until the glow becomes blinding and I have to look away. The light suddenly stops and I look back at them and they are holding a pulsing gold glass ball. Okay, what the hell just happened. This day has just been getting more weird with everything that happens.
"What just happened? Also, please tell me that you're not going to put me in that thing like Sam was." My mother laughs lightly.
"No Cassie. This is not a bad thing. These are the best things that a jumper can have. These are our souls essentially. Jumpers are able to produce these orbs as a means for survival. It contains a fragment of your soul that can be used to call you back. The collection in the attic are your people, well, the ones who have chose to either reside in the orbs completely, or a means to summon. These orbs are our most prized possessions, and they are always found when they are needed most." I give her a doubtful look.
"And what reason would that be? I don't recall being in a life crisis." Sam smirks and rolls his eyes. My mom gives me a sharp look. She doesn't appreciate my humor in what she claims to be such a serious situation.
"Cassie. You must understand that you may not be in a crisis, but one is coming. We don't have very long either, and we need to do everything we can to prepare you for what's coming." I stare at her appalled. This is just what I need on top of high school. I sigh in frustration. I just want to be normal, is that too much to ask? Ugh! Who even knows if after today, I'll ever be going back to high school.
"Cassie please don't feel that way about all this. You are so very important to the welfare of our entire people. You are the one person that can save us all." I put my hand up and stop her.
"No. No more. No more telling me that I'm the savior of all mankind or any of that. I am a teenage girl, that is in a very odd alter reality." I stop when Sam walks over to me, in a complete rage, and takes a firm grip on my shoulders.
"Cass! You have to listen to us! We are telling you the truth! There is nothing fantasy about this. You are important and you need to start believing that. You somehow chose me and now I have an obligation to help you, and I will never neglect that!" My mom puts her hand on Sam's shoulder.
"Sam, as much as want to follow orders. We need to make sure that she is okay. Cassie, he is right though. We have little time, and I will explain everything to you. He's also not wrong that you are extremely important." She takes a step back from me and smiles at Sam and I. "Come with me, I have a story for you two." She takes mine and Sam's hands and leads us out of my room down to the living room. Sam and I sit down on the couch, a little bit too close for my personal preference. My mom steps back, giving us a blinding smile. "Would either of you like some tea or coffee? It's getting late and we might need the caffeine." Sam smiles awkwardly.
"Coffee would be great. Thanks, mom." My mom looks at Sam hopefully.
"Would you like to do the honors, Sam?" He shakes his head respectfully.
"I think she needs to see it come from you Vasilissa." My mom nods her head. I give Sam an odd look. My mother's name is not Vasilissa. I slightly shake my head and try to focus.
"Very well." She sits down in the armchair across from the couch. She places her hands in her lap and a cup of coffee appears in her hand with a small burst of light. I lean back against the couch and stare in awe. Maybe I need to start believing some things that are right in front of my face. My mom hands me the cup of coffee, and I hold it gingerly between my hands. I enjoy the warmth coming from it, and I settle back into the couch. Sam moves a little bit closer to me, and I find myself enjoying his warmth too.
"So Cassie, as you now know, My name is Vasilissa. I am what the jumpers call the Elder Queen. What that means may be different to every person, but to the normal person, I am Mother Nature. I am essentially the controller of all things that have to do with the nature world and all things living. Although, I do have the abilities to manipulate and stop time. But I haven't been completely truthful in my life. Cassandra, dear. You're not my biological daughter. What you know about family structure isn't very true for you and I. You were not born from any person actually. You are much more powerful than anyone will ever believe. I may be called the Elder, but you are much, much older than me, and much more powerful. You are going to do so many great things. But I am sorry that you have been kept in the dark for so long." Sam suddenly sits forward on the couch.
"But Vasilissa, this doesn't explain why she can't remember anything of her previous lives." Vasilissa sighs.
"Well Sam, that is because she put a memory binding spell on herself. But the catch is, we can't remove it until she figures out why she put the bind on herself."
