Family Reunion

When we first fall asleep my mind is filled with a slideshow of memories from Sam. Even when we're sleeping he is still pouring all his thoughts and feelings to me through our connection. I see my face through Sam's eyes and I see the most beautiful smile on my face, and I can feel Sam mirroring my smile. The memories he shows me are all peaceful. Slowly the pictures start to fade, and I feel that Sam is slipping into a deeper sleep. As the final picture fades away, I mentally breathe a content sigh. 

Today was such an odd day, but I feel like a missing chunk of my life has been filled. I feel safe with Sam's arms wrapped around me. I can feel the power coursing through my body. It's a welcome feeling. My fingers tingle with the anticipation of power being used again. My conscious slowly starts fading away, and I know I'm about to have some of the best sleep of my life. 

But suddenly the edges of my vision tint to red and a new image comes in to focus. A girl is standing before me. She has a deadly looking smile on her face. She backs away from me a bit and suddenly I appear in the dream. I calmly move my hands and pinch my arm. Yup, definitely happening. I move my line of sight back to her and her smile turns into a smirk. 

"Welcome back Mother. I hear you're going by Cassie this life." I feel a tiny pop in my mind as I realize who is standing in front of me. 

"You must be Katherine. Nice to meet another one of my children." I do my best to hold my voice steady. I can't imagine that she would be sympathetic to me. She is a sight to see. She's the most beautifully intimidating woman I have ever seen. She is very tall and slender. Her hair is sleek black and reaches down to her hips. A vibrant red streak frames her face, which is the same color as her lipstick. She has otherworldy black linework tattoos all over her arms and some that reach on to her neck. She is wearing ripped black jeans and a black leather jacket over a blood red spaghetti strap crop top. She's wearing high-heeled black combat boots. A tiny ruby hangs from her necklace with the same thing hanging from her belly button. Her aura screams danger. I like that she looks so intimidating, but I don't really like that her demeanor is just as intimidating. When I say, "Nice to meet you" a sour look comes to her face. 

"You really don't remember me? We had so much fun together last time!" A wicked smile creeps on to her face. 

"Why does that give me a really bad feeling? I know that your title is, "Bringer of Death." I can't imagine myself helping you with that." She gives a small laugh. 

"You know I don't bring death everywhere I go." She says through a smile. "I can have a bit of fun when I'm not doing my official duty. You, me and Kai had a lot of fun in the 1800s. We fought in a couple of wars together. You know, war being Kai's thing and all." She waves her hand absentmindedly. I feel my muscles beginning to ease their contracting. I feel less nervous.  

"Well yeah, that does make sense. But I've been told that you can be quite the enemy." Katherine's face falls at this. 

"It's true that I have been a bad person in the past. I haven't been the best daughter either. Kai hasn't talked to me in ages. But I can promise you that I've changed since the last time that you were alive. I miss having you and Kai to talk to." As she explains, I feel my empathetic side flaring. If all she really wants is a mother, I can try my best to do that. No child should grow up alone. She really sounds like she wants to continue to change for the better. "I miss our family. Hell, I even have begun to miss Rex and Lissa. I never got along with them before! They think I'm the biggest threat to the Earth! I don't want them to see me like that anymore." A painful look crosses her face. Something that looks entirely out of place on her. I reach my arm out and brush her arm. She seems startled by my touch but quickly eases into it. She places her hand over mine and gives me a small smile. I debate with myself quickly in my mind.
