IT was a quiet night for Daniel— early morning actually, since it was around two am. He made sure everyone was asleep before he snuck out of his room.
He was just bored of being locked inside of those four walls, too afraid to speak to anyone besides Jonah. Not that it wasn't nice to speak to Jonah, because it was.
Daniel sat alone on the chair in the back yard. It was a warm night, the breeze only hitting every few minutes. He liked how quiet it was, how peaceful the night sky looked. Just him and his baby.
He was now ten weeks pregnant with the tiniest bump. No one could really tell the difference besides him, because he feels it. Slowly, he's becoming more fond of the idea of raising this baby with Jonah.
Speaking of, as soon as the thought of Jonah crossed Daniel's mind, he appeared. "Daniel? What are you doing out here all alone?" The older boy asked in a worried tone.
If there was anyone he cared about, it was Daniel and that baby.
"Nothing," Daniel turned his head to face Jonah. "Just clearing my head." Jonah came over to Daniel and set a blanket on his shoulders. "I don't want you getting sick."
Daniel smiled to himself faintly at the gesture as Jonah took a seat next to him. "Is there something on your mind that's bothering you?" Jonah wondered, just wanting to be of help to Daniel in any way possible.
"No, don't worry about me." Daniel said. Jonah shook his head. "I can't help myself. All I do is worry about you." Jonah confessed. "But why? I can take care of myself."
Jonah sighed, "because I promised, and I don't break my promises." Jonah concluded. "I'm glad to hear that." Daniel smiled, even though it was too dark for them to see well.
For a few minutes after that, they sat in a comfortable silence. That is, until Jonah spoke up. "I've noticed that you've started showing." Daniel's eyes brightened. "Really? You see it too?"
Jonah chuckled at Daniel's reaction. "Yeah, it's definitely there." He nodded. "You wanna feel?" Daniel placed his hand over his stomach.
Jonah's heart fluttered at the offer. For some reason he felt that a moment like this would make them feel so much closer. "Yeah."
Daniel moved to sit closer to Jonah on the chair. He lifted his shirt up, allowing Jonah near him. Jonah hesitantly reached over and placed his big hand over Daniel's tiny bump.
He froze, and didn't know what to say. He felt it, he really did, and he never knew that it would bring him such joy just from feeling the bump of a baby that 25% might be his.
"I feel it." He nodded at Daniel, the tears beginning to sting his eyes. Daniel's lips curved up into a smile. "Riley is growing." He murmured, looking down at Jonah's hand.
Both of them were the happiest in that moment.
"I can't wait." Jonah whispered. "Me either." Daniel looked up, meeting his eyes. They both exchanged a long stare. Daniel searched Jonah's eyes for the comfort that he's always wanted, and he found it.
