IT took a long time for Daniel to adjust and be fully welcome in his own house. Three months to be exact. Now he finally had his life back to normal, except Riley was a part of it too.

On the other hand, Jonah was doing terrible. To call it depression was an understatement. Jack was starting to worry for him. All he ever did was lock himself in his room and sleep all day. And when he wasn't asleep, he would be crying.

He fully stepped away from the band. Daniel had seen that on the celebrity news. Why Don't We was on hiatus until further notice. Everyone was confused, but Daniel knew that it had something to do with him.

With everything aside, Daniel tried to function normally. It sort of worked through out the day, but as soon as his head hits that pillow all he could think about was Jonah.

As much as he hated to admit it, he was still in love with him.

Jonah was nowhere near moving on either. He wanted Daniel or nothing. And that's why he took it upon himself to finally get out of bed. Surely three months is enough cooling time for someone. And he knew exactly where he could find Daniel.

Jonah stood in front of the all way too familiar door. He thought to turn back and walk away a few times. It wasn't too late for that. It wasn't too late to save himself from another heartbreak. But he knew that he had to fight for what he wanted. Daniel, Riley, and a family was what he wanted.

He knocked softly, slightly hoping that they wouldn't hear so he could turn away with at least saying he tried. But at the same time he wished that the door would open to reveal none other than his beautiful blue eyes.

Instead, the door opened to reveal Daniel's blonde sister. It took her a second to remember his face and as soon as she did her eyes widened. "You shouldn't be here." Was all she said before she went to shut the door.

"No please, wait!" Jonah wedged his foot between the door, keeping it agape. "Daniel isn't even here." Anna tried to reason. "Is Riley in there?" Jonah asked. Anna averted her gaze, unable to lie.

"Please... I haven't seen my daughter in months. I beg of you to let me in." Jonah's voice was weak, which lead Anna to believe that he didn't have bad intentions. She's grown so fond of her little niece and she'd hate to see her grow up with a missing parent.

Hesitantly, Anna opened the door for him. "You can't stay long. They're going to come home soon." She warned. "Okay, just ten minutes!" Jonah nodded eagerly.

Anna let him in. Jonah walked in, his eyes searching for her. He finally found Riley sprawled out on a blanket on the floor.

"Baby..." Jonah felt himself tear up as he picked her up. She didn't cry, almost as if she recognized him. He was no stranger to her. "I've missed you."

Anna's eyes had watered at the sight of Jonah hugging his daughter. She still didn't know why him and Daniel had called it quits, but in that moment she wished that they were still together at least for Riley.

"I'll leave you alone with her." Anna excused herself, not wanting to full on cry in front of him. Jonah took a seat on the couch while Anna went up the stairs.

He smiled over at Riley and studied her completely. She had changed so much in the past few months. He hated how he missed out on it all.

"Beautiful, just like your dad." He gawked at her. She had Daniel's intensifying blue eyes that he adored oh so much. Jonah brought her closer to his chest, kissing her forehead.

He was in the middle of making Riley laugh when he heard keys jingle. Jonah froze, all he did was hold Riley tighter to his chest.

Upon seeing him, Daniel's heart had dropped to his stomach. In some ways, Daniel was happy to finally lay eyes on the boy that he's missed so much. And in others, he hated all the memories seeing him brought back.

"W-what are you doing here?" Daniel asked in shock. "I..." Jonah wandered off. "I came to see you... and our daughter." Jonah looked at the innocent girl in his arms.

"Give me my daughter!" Daniel immediately grabbed her. Anna came running down the stairs, joining the seen. "Why wound you let him in?" Daniel asked sternly. "He-he just wanted to see her."

"No, she's my daughter! He has nothing to do with her." Daniel said angrily. "Now get out!" He turned to Jonah. The older brunette felt his heart crumple. This was the heartbreak that he didn't want to feel again.

Jonah slowly stood up and took a step towards Daniel. "Can we talk... please?" He asked gently. "What part of get out didn't you understand?" Daniel spat.

"Just hear me out," Jonah put his hands up in defence. "Get out!" Daniel shouted. He startled Riley making her cry. Jonah quickly looked over at his daughter. He hated how he wasn't even allowed to comfort her.

"Daniel," his father stepped up, taking Riley away and calming her down. "Give him a chance." Daniel's eyes widened. "Dad, you don't understand—" Daniel tried, "for Riley's sake." His dad said.

Daniel let out an angry sigh before he turned to Jonah. "Fine." Was all he said. Jonah waited for Daniel's family to clear out of the living room.

He really didn't know where to start. Jonah didn't expect to get this far. But there has been so much that's been going on in his mind and heart in the last few weeks. And that's what he needed to share.

"I know what I did to you is unforgivable. I know that allowing them to do it to you too is even worse. And trust me, I've been hating myself more and more everyday since that night. Daniel you— you're a human with rights and feelings. You weren't supposed to get taken advantage of like that, no one should. I know that even if I apologize a million times it wouldn't erase the past but... I want to at least try. If you want me to apologize to you every single day, I would. If you want me to beg, I would. If you want me... to leave you alone, it'd break my heart, but I would. And I know that I deserve to have my heart broken after I broke yours. But maybe... somewhere in that broken heart of yours you can find forgiveness and love to give to me... Daniel, I know that you feel for me like I feel for you. Ever since I stepped up to be Riley's father figure, I have fallen in love with you and every little thing about you. I love how kind you are, how caring, how you put everyone else before you. If you'd let me, I'd put you first too. I want to be with you forever, I want Riley to call me dad too, I want it to be our little family. I... I remember while you were breaking up with me you told me that what we had wasn't enough to keep holding on. You told me that our feelings might fade away. But I love you. And if 'I love you' isn't big enough of a promise then let this be..."

Jonah took the little box out of his pocket and opened it after he was down on one knee. "Daniel, will you marry me?"

Daniel, who was now a hysteric, crying mess couldn't help himself from melting at every word that Jonah said. He couldn't help himself from forgetting every moment of the past when the future sounded so promising.

Daniel was raised up to believe that everyone deserved a second chance. You forgive and forget. And no matter how big the scar is, love is the ultimate healer.

"Yes." Daniel croaked out, his voice hidden by his emotions. Jonah let out a cry of joy before he pulled Daniel to him. He placed his hands on either side of Daniel's face before smashing their lips together.

That kiss was filled with three months worth of heartache. Jonah had even forgotten how nice it felt to have his lover this close.

"You wanna go to my room?" Daniel pulled away, panting. Jonah nodded eagerly. Daniel laced their fingers together before they ran up the stairs.

After all this, might as well just declare me your Donah queen 🤷🏻‍♀️
