41. What to do now?

Elizabeth’s POV

“I don’t understand” I said moving over to lye next to him.

“I thought since I didn’t have a mate, I just assumed that the necklace only worked whenever something supernatural was near.” He mumbled.

“So what was out there?” I asked him. “Out in the woods?”  He pursed his lips into a tight line.

“It was a demon, but it was a shape shifter. It can turn into anything you can possibly imagine. That’s why to your eyes it looked like an animal but to me it was a demon. It’s made to be deceptive.”

I sat up and place my head in my hands. “This is all so much to take in Harry”. I shook my head taking in a deep breathe.” He sits up and moves closer to me and wrapping his arms around me giving me a comforting hug. We stay like this, both of us not saying anything for a long while, feeling each other’s steady breath. 

“I am so sorry” he whispers in my ear and I blink away my tears. I feel so overwhelmed I feel like sobbing but I’d rather not show him how vulnerable I can be. He gently places his hand under my chin lifting my head up to look at him.

“I am so sorry. I am so sorry for everything, for putting you in danger” he gently places a kiss on my forehead then pulls away standing up from the bed and I scowl.

“Where are you going?” I ask my voice coming out a bit higher than expected, shaky even. He turns to face me a few feet away from the door and I stand up.

“I am no good for you Elizabeth” he says dryly to me. “I have to go.”

What? Why is he leaving? Ugh!  He is so mercurial.

His words caused a sharp pain in my chest and I feel my heart sink down to my belly. I shake my head at him and he scowls at me, his eyes hardening.

“No? What do you mean no?” he asks me his voice showing a bit of anger. “I have put you in danger Elizabeth. You have a bruise on your face and all over your upper body” he said gesturing me with his right hand. I blink at him and take in a deep breathe.

“I know, but I thought you wanted me to forgive you. I thought the reason why you told me the truth was because you wanted to stay with me” I said rubbing a hand on my upper arm trying to calm my nerves while I wait for his reaction.

He closes his eyes then openes them backup. “Elizabeth, I told you the truth because you had to know. Yes, there is a part of me that will do anything to be with you.” He paused. “However, I have caused you so much pain. I cannot be the reason why your life will always be at risk” he says swiftly opening the bedroom door and walks out.
