It was morning and I got up, still in pain. It was hard, not just because of my injure but just the fact that I hate working in a job I barely get paid for. All just to do hero work because it's my duty. I think about it more and more. I lost everything because I wanted to be a hero. Should I have stopped already? I put on my uniform and wrapped my arm again. I went to the bus. I had cuts and bruises that hurt every step I took but it was my fault, I have to get through it. As I got to the Big Donut, the doors were already unlocked. Donna had gotten there early. I walked in. The jingle of the bell announced my presence.

"Hey Derek." She said happily. "Hi." I said in a disappointed tone. Not because of her but all the pain kept me from being able to sound falsely enthusiastic. She began to study me. "What happened to you?" She asked concerned. "Bike accident." I said lifting my arm but it hurt so I bit my lip hard. "Man, well are you sure you want to work?" She asked. "I have no choice. I need the money." I said blankly. She stood in silence but I could tell she was worried. I hated people worrying. I don't need care, I need to be alone.

We continued as usual. The job was same old same old. The donuts has a glaze that could be smelled from miles away. One thing I did enjoy about this job is the many different people you see come in. Some were just your typical business worker, construction, then people visiting looking for some breakfast or a snack. Today was just another day of that until, what I was hoping wouldn't happen, happened. I saw that kid, Steven, and his gem friends and their pet walking towards the Big Donut.

"Hey Donna, I'm going to take a short break in the back." I said. "Yeah, go ahead, rest your arm." She said. I walked in the back right when they walked in. I closed the door behind me but I still stood by the door to hear the conversation. It went something like this. "Hey, this looks just like the one in Beach City." Steven said. "Yeah, except this one is open." Peridot said. I heard footsteps get closer to the register. "Hello, welcome to the Big Donut, what would you like?" Donna asked. "Three chocolate filled donuts and a hotdog donut please." Steven said. Donna knocked on the door where I was standing and fell back, hitting my head on the lunch table. "Owww!" I said to myself.

"Woh, Derek, be careful." Said Donna. She picked me up and told me if I could help with the order. I was unsure if the arm would be a give away to them. The last thing I want is for them to know who I am. Why did they have to come here? I shook my head in disappointment while making their hotdog donut. I walked behind the corner and let Donna get in front of me. She handed them the food and then it happened. "Hey what happened to your arm?" Steven asked. "Biking accident." I said in a monotone voice. He looked at me sort of suspiciously. I think he is figuring it out. It doesn't help either that I have some wounds on my other arm and some face scratches. "Well I hope you heal well." He said before leaving with his friends and Pumpkin. Now they probably know. Why me?

I got off work as was usual. I went to take the bus home. Got into my apartment. I looked for my costume. It was still on my bed where I left it. Still had some dry bl**d from the night before. My arm wouldn't be that good in crime fighting this night but it's my fault this happened so I'll just have to get through it. I put on my suit. My arm was still broken and the pain was getting on my nerves but I took some pain killers to get rid of the feeling. I got off the fire escape and ran in the shadows. At least I got rid of that Nightshadow criminal, she won't be a problem. I ran to a nearby parking lot.

Almost running past it until I saw someone. The dimmed street light revealed to my eyes a guy breaking into a car. I walked around the lit areas and tried to see his way of trying to break in. He tried using a hanger but seemed to give up before breaking the window. I ran towards him by surprise and tripped him causing him to fall on his face. "Freak!" He yelled before getting up ready to fight. He punched and kicked but I dodged and blocked. I got a straight punch across his face. Then a kick to his stomach just for him to charge at me. He punched me in my face causing bl**d to fly.

I tried getting out of the situation but he pinned me by my good arm. He then punched my bad arm. "AAAAAAAH!" I screamed. The pain just came back. Meaning the pain killers were wearing off. I head punted him. He got off and felt dizzy. I was a little too but not too much. I got up and used both my legs and feet to kick him in his stomach. I fell unfortunately on my bad arm. "Ah sh**t!" I yelled. He was on the concrete still. I got up and used my one good arm to punch him in his face constantly till he passed out. Throughout this whole situation the car alarm was continuously beeping which drove the police in this direction so I ran off.
