I didn't know where I was going. Where ever there was crime I guess. My arm was throbbing. I couldn't move it in the slightest. I then saw a car drive slowly by me. Then it stopped. I looked for a few seconds before running quicker. They began to run fast after me. I tried to lose them in the busy streets and people on the sidewalks. They then grabbed me by my hood and threw me into some trash cans. I was already in pain so this was just unbearable. "You're the hero that got our boss arrested." One of the guys said. "Who was your boss?" I asked not looking up.
One of them picked up my chin and said the name I expected. "Nightshadow." He said then punched my face. I was face down in dirty puddle water. They picked me up and was about to teach me a lesson when all of a sudden. Bam! A trash can lid knocked one of the guys on his head. The other was lifted by the water that was lying within the alley. Then thrown to the wall. He was out cold. The guy that was hit by the lid got knocked out by the whole rash can this time. I didn't have to look up. I knew who saved me but I was not happy about it once again.
"I told you to leave me alone!" I yelled. They backed up a little. I was a mess. My arm was worse than before, I couldn't see straight. I saw Steven talking but I didn't really make out what he said. "Get away from me......" Everything went dark and I felt like I was in a loop. I was in a place that I wouldn't be able to get back from. Maybe I was finally going to be where I have been wanting to be. A place of peace. A place where I might see my family and friends again.
I had woken up from what felt like a eternity. I couldn't move. I was aching in pain. All I could see was light and hear beeps close to my ears. I had adjusted my eyesight shortly revealing that I was in a hospital bed. I then saw a Pumpkin at the foot of my bed. In a way, I was glad to see someone or something that looked familiar in this white room of insanity and illumination. Ruff! The pumpkin sounded just like a dog. I was a bit surprised because I don't think I remember hearing this thing make a noise at all the times I saw it. Then I pet it. That was a moment of happiness ruined when those three bozos walked in. "Hey how are you feeling?" Steven asked. "I told you to leave me alone. Look where I am. In a hospital. Did they see me in my mask?" I asked.
Steven nodded no and the other two just stared. "Look we were only trying to help." Lapis said raising her tone of voice. "I told you to leave me alone! I lost everything and the reason I do what I do is to make up for it! I don't need all of you to help me! You should have left me there." I broke down crying. They looked at me with concerned looks. Peridot put her hand on my shoulder. I didn't push her away but I didn't acknowledge her either. She began to put her arm around me. She hugged me. I hadn't had a hug since my parents left me from this world. It was like having them back for a split second. I then hugged back. All of a sudden, Lapis came in and hugged me as well. She made the hug even better. Then Steven came in and we were all tearing up while in each other's embrace.
After the moment of sadness, a doctor walked in. We all stopped and looked at her. "Hello, Derek. Seems that suffered some sever injures and a broken arm." She said. "Is my arm bad doctor...." I asked but didn't see a tag. "Doctor Alvarez and I would say your actually lucky. That arm will remain in a cast longer than you would want but it'll heal in a month or a couple of weeks." She said. The other three looked at me with concern. "You're lucky to have friends her that brought you here before you suffered any further injures." She said. I looked at them once more. Not a happy look but not disappointed look either. It was neutral. They weren't my friends but they did help me get here so it was a nice thing for them to do. "I suggest you rest here for about a couple of days before going back home." She said. I nodded and she walked out of the room.
Man, days without doing any hero work or working at the Big Donut. Life just keeps giving. I really need to get out of this hospital. "Look, I know this is hard for you Derek, and we just want you to know, even if you don't want us here we will still be there for you." Steven said. Lapis nodded, as well as Peridot. "Look I do find an appreciation for what you did but I don't want friends. You guys don't know what type of people I get involved with and I don't want anyone else I know to get hurt or pass away because of me." I said. "But we won't because, we're not human." Said Lapis. I look down at my blanket I had over me. Why would they want to help me? Why would I be someone they would want to be around?
