Chapter Three//Our Song

   "Lucy, will you read these lyrics, and tell me what you think of them?" Namjoon walked into his bedroom with a piece of paper in hand, wearing a nervous expression on his face. He'd been writing in his studio for the past half-hour while Lucy had been napping in his room after a long day of training. "It's just rudimentary, mostly an idea really," Namjoon rambled quietly as Lucy scanned the words on the page.
 
"They're good Namjoon. I like them a lot actually." Namjoon beamed as Lucy looked up at him and handed the paper back to him. He placed the sheet down on the bedside table.
 
"I'm glad you like them." Namjoon sat down beside Lucy. "I wrote it with you in mind." He glanced sheepishly at Lucy, whose eyes were widened in surprise.
 
"They're so beautiful and raw Namjoon. How could they be about me?"
 
"If they're beautiful it's because you're beautiful. And the emotions are raw and real because the love I feel for you is real." Lucy smiled and looked down, touched by Namjoon's sweet and poetic honesty.

  "I guess that would make it our song?"

  "Yeah, I guess it would." Namjoon smiled as he looked at Lucy, slowly he leaned in to kiss her. Lucy moved forward to meet his lips.

   Namjoon sat on his studio's couch with Lucy beside him. Sheets of paper surrounded them. It was a few days after he'd shown Lucy that first idea, and now the two of them were working together on it. Lucy had suggested that they write the song together as a duet; it would be their song.

   "No one else even needs to hear it if we decide that." She'd hugged him as she spoke. Namjoon had easily agreed. He thought it was a wonderful idea. They'd started working on it in his studio almost immediately.

   Taehyung hadn't thought it was a good idea when Namjoon had mentioned it to him. His expression grew skeptic and his eyebrows had knit together. He didn't really trust Lucy, he couldn't quite explain why.

  "Namjoon, are you sure that it's a good idea to write and produce a song with Lucy?"

   "What do you mean Taehyung? I think it's a great idea. She's a talented artist and we have a special connection that makes writing easier." Namjoon raised his eyebrows, as Taehyung but his lip. He hated annoying his older friend, and Namjoon using his full name was a telltale sign of that. "I think it's a smart move for both of us."

  "Can you trust her though, Namjoon?" Namjoon didn't give his friend time to continue.

    "Of course I can trust her! She's my girlfriend Taehyung!" Namjoon's expression and tone had quickly grown incredulous and defensive, something that didn't often happen when he was talking to Taehyung.

   "It's just that you haven't known her for very long Namjoon, and sometimes people do things they wouldn't usually do when it comes to the industry and getting ahead."

   "We've been together for six months, I think that I know my girlfriend well enough to trust her with my work." Taehyung just nodded as Namjoon walked away. He knew there was no use talking to Namjoon now. He wasn't going to listen.
 
It wasn't that he thought Namjoon was a poor judge of character, Taehyung was just worried that his friend's kindness and talent could be easily used. It wasn't unheard of for people to cheat others within the industry. Namjoon was a talented artist and producer. His ability to write meaningful lyrics infused with figurative language was a great gift. Taehyung was young and inexperienced, but he knew that it could also be seen as an asset to further someone's career. Taehyung didn't trust Lucy. That was the root of it. She was a young artist just starting out, and yeah, Taehyung was an actor, but he knew how hard that was. However, from what he could judge she was also ambitious and self-absorbed. That was a dangerous combination for the trusting and kind Namjoon.

  Taehyung sat in his own room in the shared apartment and pondered how he could possibly protect Namjoon from getting hurt. He knew that Namjoon wouldn't listen to him, he'd already tried to talk to him. He also knew that it was unlikely that any of his other friends would be able to get through to him. That left him with only one choice.
 
The only thing to do was to confront Lucy. Taehyung sighed bitterly, he hated talking to that person, but to protect Namjoon, he'd do almost anything.

   Lucy and Namjoon had brainstormed through the entire concept of the song and had even come up with some lines of lyrics within a week. That was when Namjoon took control of the project. Lucy wasn't a lyricist and she couldn't produce anything on her own. Mostly, she'd just sit in Namjoon's studio while he worked on the fine details and final lyrics for the song, giving encouragements and feedback from time to time.
 
  Of course, Namjoon often worked on the song late into the night by himself after Lucy had left. He wanted the song to be the best thing he'd ever created. Namjoon wanted Lucy to know exactly how much she meant to him, and he wanted the song to convey it. The song and Lucy had become all-consuming to him. Dark circles began to show up clearer and clearer under his eyes as the weeks went by. Everyone around him knew that he wasn't sleeping well. If anything he was only getting a few hours of sleep at a time.
  
Everyone around him worried, and they all took turns trying to convince him to rest. His friends would come over and try to intervene. Seokjin tried to bring him warm milk in his studio to make him drowsy. Yoongi tried to hack his computers and lock him out. Hoseok tried to get him to watch a marathon of their favorite television show. Taehyung tried to reason with him. Jimin and Jungkook tried to wrestle him away from his work. His mother and father called him and asked him to rest after Taehyung had called them and explained the situation. None of their methods worked though.
   
Namjoon didn't rest, he just kept going, working late into every night on the song. Lucy didn't ask him to rest, she asked him to do other things, so he didn't see the need.
