Mary's P.O.V.

I woke up to the sound of the TV downstairs. 'Jack.' Was all I could think. I got out of bed, put on my bathrobe, and walked down the stairs. I was walking toward the kitchen but poked my head in the living room and as I thought Jack was sitting on the couch, coffee in hand, watching football. I rolled my eyes but continued to the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen and noticed Sofia eating some toast.

"Hey Sof." I said opening the fridge looking for something to eat.

"Hey. Don't you have plans for today?"

"Yep. How long have you been up exactly?"

"No idea. I woke up thanks to dad." Sofia rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"Haha. Same her sis. Same here. Did you not have school today?'

"Didn't feel good. Threw up actually. Dad still thinks I was faking it though."

"Seriously?! Even after you literally threw up? That is all kinds of messed up." I grabbed some fruit planning on having fruit salad. I made my salad and sat down next to Sofia and started eating.

"Yep. I don't understand it personally. What is fake about throwing up? Honestly I don't know what our mother sees in that man."

"I agree with you there but it isn't our place to judge. She loves him, she wants him, she marries him. We don't get to decide."

"How? How do you do that?"

"Do what?" I raised and eyebrow.

"Stand up for him. You hate him- I know you do- but you still stand up for him like it's no big deal."

"Oh Sofia. I am not standing up for him. I am standing up for mom's choice. You are right though. I do hate Jack. More than anything. But you have to understand that mom loves him even though we don't. We just... have to let mom love who she wants to love and who she believes will love her back."

"Geez Mary. You sound like a preacher."

"Yeah, a preacher who argues with one specific man everyday. Now I have to get ready. Have fun with Jack."

"Will do." And with that I went to my room to get ready. I grabbed my swimsuit and coverup out of the shopping bag I left by my dresser and got dressed. Out from my closet I took out a beach bag from my trip to Florida and put one towel, a can and stick of sunscreen, an extra pair of sunglasses, a hat, a book, and a water bottle in the bag. I grabbed my keys and went downstairs. As soon as I was about to walk out the door Jack came up to me.

"Where do you think you are going?"

"The beach. I am off today and I have nothing to do so I am hanging out with friends. Does this bother you?"

"Yes it does because you haven't done your chores."

"Well if mom were here she would be saying 'Have a great time and remember to use sunscreen' and not 'Oh darling by the way since you finally have a day off you can do all my chores because I am too lazy to do it.' So I will be leaving now since I follow the rules of my mother. Not you." I quickly went out the door and got in my car before Jack could say anything more.

I got out of my car and walked down to the sand. I looked around until I saw Emily and Alex setting up our area on the sand. I walked up to them and set my stuff down.

"Hey guys." I said getting my towel out.

"Mary! Here help me with this umbrella." Emily said smiling.
