Chapter 14

Author's P.O.V.

It took Mary 5 minutes to get out her trance. 'He likes me?' Was the only thing Mary could think. Emily had been right the whole time. Jake liked Mary. Like liked her liked her. He wanted to date her. And while Mary liked Jake back, she couldn't date him. Not now at least. She was too scared. Too scared for him to hurt her the way Thomas had. (Thomas was her old boyfriend that heated on her.) Finally when she gathered up her thoughts Mary stood up and walked toward the sand and where the others were.

"Mary there you are! I have to talk to you privately." Emily was smiling ear to ear. Mary had never seen the girl so happy.

"Ok lets go!" Mary tried to be enthusiastic and reach her friends level of excitement but her mind was still partially on Jake. Em grabbed Mary's hand yanking her a few feet out of earshot from the boys.

"Guess what, guess what, guess what?!"

"What, what, what, what, what?!"

"Alex actually asked me out!!" Emily almost screamed.

"Oh my God Emily! Details woman!" Emily laughed.

"Ok so we were walking to our are you know and when we got there Alex seemed nervous. I didn't know why at the time obviously and then her starts to complement me. I had like, no idea where he was going with this. I was so confused. Then out of the blue he asks me out! I am like 'Yes of course!' I mean I liked him but I had no idea he liked me! It was awesome."

"I told you he liked you! Why don't you listen to me?"

"Says the girl who wont believe me that Jake likes her." Mary bit her lip and looked down. "Oh my God he does like you!"

"No it isn't like that. I mean-"

"You mean what? What did you guys talk about in the water when we left?"

"Nothing we just talked!"

"Mm Hmm."

"Ok maybe he said some stuff but-"

"What did he say!?" Mary sighed and described her and Jake's conversation in the water. "Oh my God girl!! Did you make plans to go out?"

"No. After that he just stood up and walked away. Like nothing happened."

"Well will you get together?"

"I don't- I don't know." Mary sighed.?!"

"You have to. Why won't you?"

"You know about Thomas-"

"Yeah I know he cheated on. But Jake isn't like Thomas."

"Yeah well I didn't think Thomas was like that! It took me by surprise and I was hurt! Bad too!"

"Girl, all I am saying is that you should try. Just try going out with Jake. He likes you and you know it. He even said that you were beautiful and that he'll wait for you."

"Fine. I'll talk to him tomorrow. Not now. I don't want to take away your spotlight with Alex."

"Yes! Ok lets go back. I see the boys looking over here." They walked back over to the area and Emily took her drink from Alex while Mary grabbed her water bottle from her bag.

"What did you guys talk about?" Alex said then took a sip of his coke.

"Non of you business Alex. Now is it?"

"Haha. I don't think I have ever heard even a small amount of sass come out of your mouth until now."

"You would be surprised how sassy she can be." Emily said shoving Mary a tad bit.
