It has been a few hours now and you still couldn't comprehend what you had read. The initial feeling of reading that headline was like a kick in the stomach. You should've have watched the rest of the news broadcast to find out what Jervis did to end up being taken to Arkham but everything sounded muffled to you. You had no idea what to do. You were completely frozen. Nothing added up. Jervis a criminal? No way. But then again, maybe he never told you knowing that it would put your relationship in jeopardy. You took a few moments to sit there, process and figure out what your next move was going to be.

Just then your phone rang. It came up as a simple unknown number but something prompted you to pick it up. There was an automated voice at the end of the line.

"This call will be recorded and monitored. I have a collect call from Jervis Tetch. An inmate at Arkham Asylum. If you would like to accept this and future calls please press four."

You took the phone away from your face, pressed four on your keypad and muttered "oh for fuck sake Jervis."

After a few seconds you heard his pleading voice. "(Y/N) thank god. Listen I—" You cut him off right then and there "Ah ah ah. Save it. I don't want to hear it right now. I only accepted this call to tell you how distraught I am. I can't believe that you could do this! Whatever the hell you did I'm sure that it wasn't something too fantastic if you ended up in Arkham for christ sake. Is our relationship some type of joke to you? We had something and you ruined it. Are there visitation hours?" You took a slight pause to let him respond. "Yes." You continued. "Okay I will be there tomorrow. I want you to understand that just because I'm coming to see you does not mean that I forgive you by any means. Do you understand?" Again, you stopped briefly to allow him to answer. "I understand. I am so sorry (Y/N)." "Yeah? Well sorry just doesn't cut it." You hung up before he could get in another word.

You threw your phone onto the couch and started getting ready for bed. It was only midnight but you had a big day ahead of you. You needed all of the sleep that you could possibly get.

It's amazing how something so lovely can easily shrivel up, die and wither away.
