The crackling of the fire soothed the feline's nerves as she watched the vibrant flames dance alongside one another. The heat radiating from the burning wood made her feel sleepy, but she decided to stay up for a little longer to reflect on today's events
Her thoughts kept going back to the words Adora spoke to her on the battlefield, it was all that she could think about since Hordak was defeated
"I still believe in you, catra"
that sentence repeated itself inside her head and it made her think, think about about if that was really true, that after all this time Adora still had some faith in her, that maybe she could change for the greater good, that maybe.... maybe it was still possible, to fix their broken relationship
but why must she be the one to fix it? Adora was the one that left her right? It didn't matter to her wether they became friends again or not. She didn't care
at least, that's what she told herself
there were so many unknown emotions running through her body which made it hard for her to understand what she really wanted, and what happened between her and Adora didn't make it any easier. What was she going to do now?
One of her ears flipped to the side when she could hear the rustling of leaves close by, causing Catra to turn her head towards the noise and it wasn't long before Scorpia appeared out of the shadows
"I'm back. Has everyone calmed dow- hey where did the cute girl go?" She asked when she saw the loose ropes at the bottom of the tree
"She escaped" Catra lied as she faced away from her friend, her eyes glistening in the fire light
Scorpia noticed the sadness in Catra's voice and became greatly concerned "You're crying! Is everything alright? Do you need a hug" She outstretched her arms but Catra rejected her offer
Catra brought one of her hands up to her damp cheek to reveal that she was, in fact, crying "I'm fine" she wiped her eyes "And I'm not crying, it's the smoke from the fire...it's making my eyes sting" she turned back round to face Scorpia again "you go get some sleep... I'll watch over the camp tonight"
"But you've been watching over the camp for hours already... don't you want me to do it?" Scorpia asked with furrowed brows "you need to res-"
"No!" Catra abruptly snapped before mentally reprimanding herself "no..." she said a bit more softly "I'll do it"
Scorpia said no more as she made her way into the tent, which was followed by a rustling noise before complete silence.
Catra pulled her knees up to her chest as her lips moulded themselves into a small frown. As much as she wanted to, the feline couldn't stop the memories of the loss and pain she had experienced over the past couple months, she hoped that it would all be over soon.
。。。
The trio walked through the woods in an awkward silence, the crunching of leaves being the only source of noise until Bow spoke up "y'know" he began "this kinda reminds me of back when we saw Adora for the first time" he chuckled lightly
"You mean when we captured her and tried to take her back to bright moon, and then we were attacked by a giant creature?" She chuckled
Bow laughed alongside her "Yeah. And then adora turned into an 8 foot tall lady with a cape and long hair"
"it was amazing" Glimmer smiled "and to think that was how many months ago now...? It's crazy how time flys by"
As the two of them recalled the many memories of their past adventures, Adora stayed quiet in her own thoughts and slowed down her pace. There was something that was bothering since she woke up from the battle, and it was one of the reasons why she was unable to get any sleep that night
"Hey Glimmer?" She finally perked up, interrupting Bow from retelling the story of when they met Entrapta and battled evil robots
"Yeah, what's up?" She replied, stopping in her tracks to turn and face the blonde who had also stopped moving
With a muddled expression on her face, Adora exclaimed "there has been something that has been bothering me as of today and I just can't wrap my head around it"
Glimmer's eyebrows knitted together as she placed her hands on her hips "go on..." she encouraged, feeling intrigued on what Adora had to say
"You were the one to defeat Hordak right? He's the most powerful person I've ever met and yet you were able to kill him...all by yourself. I know that you're really strong but..." her eyes grew wide as she asked "...how?"
"I can't believe I forgot to tell you!" She gasped "I didn't do it alone" she stated "I was able to do it with the help...of Catra" even Glimmer was perplexed by her own words
"What!" Came a cracked voice from bow "what do you mean she helped you?! I thought she hated the rebellion"
"I don't know why, but she just did" Glimmer stated before looking towards Adora "she just turned around and attacked him...it was right after you passed out Adora." An idea seemed to pop into Glimmer's mind " I saw you say something to her, what was it exactly? I was too far away to hear maybe it was that?"
Adora squinted her eyes slightly " I just told catra that I still believed in her, but I don't understand why that would make a turn against her own team" she sighed "nothing that I've ever said has ever gotten through to her, so why now?"
bow shook his head "I don't know..." he looked at the two girls before moving a branch that was blocking their path to the side " let's just get back"
Adora and Glimmer nodded their heads in agreement before making their way back to Bright Moon.
。。。
loneliness crept up on Catra like a bug that was invisible to see. she still had Scorpia though, yet this lingering feeling of isolation still stuck with her all her the time
Usually she would stuff this feeling to the bottom of her stomach and refused to acknowledge it until it eventually faded away, but now that all she only had one other person beside her and she had nowhere to go, The feeling became more intense and the tugging on her heart made her eyes water once again
She told herself that she was just being pathetic however that didn't stop the couple of tears rolling down her cheeks and onto the ground.
as she picked at the grass beneath her, Catra's mind wondered to a few moments ago; when Adora was tied to the tree, still unconscious from Scorpia's poison
。。。
When catra had tied the last knot that bounded the girl to the tree, she got up and walked around so she was now in front of the princess
she crouched down so she was level with Adora and stared at her with an emotionless gaze.
Catra reached out her hand and traced her fingers across Adora's soft cheek before placing her hand under the blonde's chin and tilting her head up slightly
she was able to see the many bags under her eyes. It looked like she hadn't got a decent amount of sleep all week
Catra retracted her hand and stood up once again before starting apathetically at Adora. Why should she care if Adora had gotten any sleep?
"hey, Scorpia" she spoke as she turned to face said person "watch over the princess...let me know if she wakes up"
Scorpia agreed with a smile as she got up and walked towards adora.
Catra looked back at her former best friend a little longer than necessary before climbing into one of the tents to be left with her thoughts
。。。
The feline became annoyed with herself. No matter what her thoughts always cams back to her
she sighed solemnly as she watched the fire's flames rise high into the dark sky
Lonnie, Kyle and Rogelio turned themselves in that day, maybe it was time she did.
