Amelia

I had tried to subtly avoid the boys for the rest of the day. I wasn't sure what I was feeling at this point. Everything is so confusing. Boys are confusing!

Who does he think he is invading my thoughts like that?!

I am not even sure what to feel at this point. He said that I "am too precious" to ever hurt. What does that even mean? What does he even mean?

I am so wrapped up in my thoughts that I do not even notice Morgan approaching me with that look on her face.

What look you might ask?

The look where I know she needs to spend the night at my house because everything is too rough at home.

Growing up, Morgan and I both had loving families that took care of us. While we may live next door to each other,  Morgan needs the escape sometimes.

This has been happening since the 7th grade when Morgan caught her mother having an affair with her history teacher. Ever since then, Morgan has blamed herself for the destruction and chaos in her household.

Her mother and father refuse to split before Morgan goes to college, I don't understand that, but there is not really anything I can do about it besides provide some comfort to my best friend.

"Mels can I-" she started

"Morgan you already know that you are always welcome at my house, " I mumbled back quickly accidentally cutting her off, as I was getting distracted by a crowd forming.

I may have wanted to stay and watch the fight, but I knew I couldn't. If Morgan and I saw her dad, there would be so many questions as to why we were there and not getting a teacher to break up the fight.

So despite every inch of me telling me to stay, I grabbed Morgan's arm and yanked her out of the building, but not before I saw who was fighting, Gage McKinley and Cole Fisher.

After getting into Morgan's car, one thought was on repeat in my head. What were they fighting about? I did not have much time to linger on that thought because pretty soon Morgan had the music on full blast and we were jamming to some of our favorite artists.

As we pulled into my driveway, Morgan decided to slam the brakes just to get a reaction out of me, like usual. But jokes on her, I have trained myself not to throw my body into the reaction.

Once we entered my house, I noticed my parents were gone.  Even though my dad works from home on Mondays, he still has other non-work related commitments, like coaching the youth boys basketball team down at the community center.

He used to play there as a kid, so the center has a lot of meaning to him, as it got him through some tough times when he was younger.

As for my mom, she goes and spends time with my grandmother every Monday and Wednesday night.

My grandma does not live far from us, but my mom is not always able to see her everyday due to her job, so she tries to make it a priority to see her at least twice a week. I see her as well, but usually on the weekends because school takes a lot out of me.

As I came back into focus, I noticed that I was still standing behind my now closed front door.

But it's interesting because I didn't even hear an animal sneaking behind my legs, and that's the only logical reason that someone could be so viciously rummaging through my fridge, unless it was Morgan.

Morgan always steals my food, well it's not really mine, but I like to imagine that it is.

So due to my overwhelming care of my food, I knew I needed to walk into the kitchen to make sure that Morgan is not eating my entire stock of ice cream that is hidden behind the frozen vegetables.

"Mels where is the ice cream? I know you have it hidden in here somewhere!" Morgan screamed, not realizing that I was in the kitchen.

"Morgan, I will grab it since I don't need you knowing where I keep my stash".

"Ok, but I want mint chocolate chip please," Morgan said, while elongating the word please, thinking I would say no.

After grabbing our ice-cream, we headed into my room where we sat on the futon at the end of my bed that is across from the television.

While she set the controllers up, I set the game up. It's been a tradition of ours. When one of us is upset, we play Mario Kart while eating ice cream.

After about twenty minutes of us yelling back and forth at each other to move the heck over on the road, I finally asked "Do you want to talk about it Morgan?"

"It's just my dad and I got into another fight about her. I just don't see why he won't divorce her already. I've accepted that they won't be married forever, but I just can not for the life of me understand why they need to stay together for 'my sake'. Anyways, I don't really want to talk about this. I think we need to talk about something else".

"We do?" I asked stupidly, already knowing that we did indeed need to talk about something else.

"Umm, of course we do Amelia! I know you gave me the rundown of what happened before lunch, but we never talked about what happened during lunch, so it is time to spill sista!"

"Oh no, no, no Morgan! It is you who needs to spill. I saw you and Maddox flirting today. I want to know what's going on with you two".

"AMELIA! We just met today! There is nothing going on between us, except that I think he is h to the o to the t. I mean was the AC broke today because hot damn girl," Morgan said dreamily.

"But Morgan, Gage and I just officially met today," I retorted.

"But you think he's cute Amelia, admit it," she responded sarcastically.

"Fine, I will give you that, but I just don't know why he's talking to me. Lauren will literally kill him".

"Ok, first off, Lauren is dating Cole Fisher, so as long as I am concerned, I don't really care about her opinion. Besides, it was so obvious he had a thing for you".

Gosh, I wish Morgan, I wish. Wait, no I don't. What am I saying? My goodness, I think I've been around too many people today, it's like my senses are all on overdrive. I normally try to hide away from everyone as I hate the attention, but now that Lauren has noticed me talking to Gage, I have a feeling that it is game over.

"Hey, speaking of Cole Fisher, did you see him and Gage about to get into that fight after school today?"

"No, but I wonder what they could have been fighting about. The only thing I could think of is Lauren, but she's not really worth getting into a fight over, especially since Gage thinks you're cute".

"I am just going to deflect from that last comment, but seriously, thank you for sticking up for me in front of Lauren today Morgan, that really meant a lot".

"Amelia, you have been my rock for the past ten years and have always stood up for me. I would have fought for you at any point my life Mels. You're my best friend, Morgan responded quietly.
