I bounced my knee, chewing on my bottom lip as I looked towards the doors of the building and back to the top of my steering wheel. My hands were clasped together in my lap and I knew everyone was already inside, ready for the meeting and I would be the last one to sit down. It was one more thing for David to get mad at me about, but it was too late to be on time so I took a few more minutes to myself before this day turned to shit.
I found the courage to open my door, locking the vehicle behind me and walked towards the doors. I got inside, slowly making my way to an office in the building, taking my time to say hello to a few of the workers, hoping to waste more time as if it would stop this from happening. When I pushed open the doors, there was six people sitting at the large table. Liam, Louis, Zayn, Niall, Megan, and David.
“You’re late.” Were the first words David said, an already angry look on his face.
“Traffic.” I lied and he sighed, probably knowing I had been sitting in my vehicle since I pulled
“Please sit down,” He said, gesturing to the open seat beside Liam.
So I sat beside Louis in spite of him.
His jaw tightened, but I knew everyone else was amused. Louis and I weren’t the only ones who hated the shit he made us do, and we all couldn’t wait until their contract was over.
“Is there any way Andrew can make it today?” He asked Megan and she shook her head.
“He couldn’t get off work on a short notice.” She said, and I picked out the lie the second she put an I’m-sorry-but-not-really smile at the end of her sentence.
He easily believed her, before turning to me.
“I already spoke to Jennifer about the... Incident,” He told me and I almost cringed at his word choice. “And I don’t think it’s necessary to speak to her with the group, but I haven’t spoke to any of you yet.”
“Look, we were all really drunk that night and none of us intended to post the picture,” Niall began.
“I’m aware of that, but I’m unaware of who posted the picture. I’m assuming that there was only the six of you in that room, along with Andrew and Jennifer.”
“We were.” Liam agreed.
“So one of you had to take the picture and send it out somewhere, right?” He wondered and I looked to Megan, who was staring down at her hands.
“That’s what we were trying to figure out, but I don’t think anyone really remembers that night all too well,” He told David calmly. “And even if we did know who did it, I don’t think there’s any way of getting the picture back.”
“But I would like to know.” He stated. “Everyone here knows how much this has probably affected the band, especially Louis and Harry.”
We were all quiet, but he kept looking at us like he expected us to say something. I forced my eyes away from Megan, not wanting him to catch me glance over to her. No matter how angry I was, this was her job and she was good at everything she did. She wasn’t one of the band members, so she could be fired, but she didn’t have another job to go to, or a college or university diploma so finding another career would be even harder. With a few words, I could take away so much from her and even if I barely knew her, I couldn’t say anything. No one deserved this, but David didn’t realize that.
