terrorist indirectly claiming credit for the suspected attack spurred the country's belief in that theory."
"But you know this man is guilty of the crime?" King asked, pointing a finger at Clint that was quivering with rage.
"No, sir, I don't know he is guilty. I brought Mr. Indigence here to face you and have offered, in his presence, evidence I was able to uncover against him. Evidence, I must point out, that would most probably be inadmissible in a court of law. Even if a talented prosecutor could persuade a judge to admit this evidence, it would be, at best, circumstantial and probably not compelling enough to obtain a conviction."
"You needn't worry about him receiving an acquittal, Detective. I will make certain Mr. Indigence is convicted before he ever sets foot in that courtroom!" Midas cast his gaze back in Clint's direction, still pointing the enraged finger. "What do you have to say?"
Clint again absorbed the evil glare. "You rule an empire, Mr. Midas. You have gained untold wealth by exacting tolls on the toils of those who are impoverished. In The Bible it states, 'For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and loose his own . . .' What have you lost, Mr. Midas?"
"I haven't lost anything except my son, I didn't lose him; you took him from me. Religious fanaticism won't save you."
"Very well, Mr. Midas, if I will take responsibility for the death of your son, will you likewise take responsibility for the death of mine?"
"Likewise, Mr. Indigence, a plea of insanity won't save you either," King seethed, his pointed finger increasing its raging momentum.
Clint smiled. He stepped in front of the massive desk, directly facing Mr. Midas. "Then I only have one last thing to say to you." Clint closed his eyes and concentrated every fiber of his being into one Titanic attempt to re-synchronize the out-of-phase current surging through his war-ravaged motor neurons. For one miraculous moment, Clint's hands again became as steady as the mountains of home. Clint opened his eyes and triumphantly declared, "Your hands are shaking, King!"
