Prompt: Kai spending time with his friends before the Academy
A.N.- I feel like a lot of you think Kai became a moody bitch only after his accident and...ding-dong, ur wrong
------------------------------------------------------------
The cold wind whipped at my exposed arms as I raced down the side of the mountain. Snow sprayed up at me, and I easily swayed my body to change my course.
Two of my friends shot past me, hollering out insults as they raced each other. I wasn't racing right now, though. I was just enjoying the freedom of the day.
A jump loomed ahead of me and I leaned back, the snowboard strapped to my feet following my movement and pulling me towards the jump. I crouched my body low, picking up momentum as I approached the jump. I could hear friends cheering from behind me as I started up it.
I hit the end of the jump and twisted my body, spinning twice in the air before slamming back to the ground, a little unsteady but easily regaining my balance. My legs absorbed the impact of my landing, my arms flinging out to steady myself as I continued on my way down the mountain.
I reached the end, easing myself to a stop and leaning down to unhook one of my feet. My friends gathered around me, everyone in high spirits.
"Nice jump, Kai!" Sara said, smacking me on the back.
"Only two spins? You're slacking," Logan said.
"I'm not trying to end up in the hospital today. It's way too nice out," I said, stretching my arms. We'd all abandoned our jackets to the ski lodge, opting to board in just our T-shirts, snowpants, and gloves. I pulled my goggles up, resting them on top of my helmet and grinning smugly at Logan.
"But I'll race you on the next one. Have to hit all the jumps, though," I said.
"Name a hill and you're on," Logan challenged.
"Megan, pick a hill," I said.
"You two racing? Definitely Shade Hill," she said.
"That's a horrible hill to race on!" Logan complained. "It's wicked icy. Kai said he's not trying to get hospitalized today, and neither am I. I broke my thumb on that hill two years ago."
I frowned. "Wow, Logan, I had no idea."
"That I broke my thumb?" he said.
"No, that you're such a pussy," I said.
He scowled. "Fine. You're on, Kai.
"I'll wait at the bottom to judge. Sara, follow them and make sure they hit all the jumps," Megan said. "Watch your thumb, pussy boy."
I snickered and pushed myself towards the lift. Logan and Sara followed me, and the three of us got in line. Logan and I got on the lift together, Sara riding up solo behind us.
My board dangled from my foot as I looked down at the hills below us. "Good day for riding. And for kicking your ass in a race."
"I can't wait to see your face when you lose," Logan said. "Knock you off your high horse."
I grinned and elbowed him in the ribs playfully. "Come on, we're here to have fun. And what's more fun than staring at my ass when I blow right past you on the hill?"
