Eerie

When I first hit send after I wrote that text message to Ethan I was a bit apprehensive. Well, in all honesty, I was terrified that he wouldn't respond, and also kinda scared that he would. I paced around my room and berated myself for not knowing what I wanted, and then yelled at myself some more for lying about not knowing. Just then my phone yelped, and I nearly jumped out of my skin and dropped it. Once I picked my phone up off the floor with shaky hands and read his message I couldn't help but smile because it seemed like maybe I could keep him for just a little bit longer. I quickly sent him a message to meet me at the park by my house in 20 minutes and then rushed into my closet to find something to wear. Something that looked like I didn't care, but also that I wasn't just wearing a pair of old sweat pants and a captain planet T-shirt ten seconds ago. I settled for a pair of gray skinny jeans that were ripped in the knees and a black sweater with a white camisole under it, paired with my black chucks and a gray beanie. I was just finishing applying my eyeliner when my phone went off with a message from Ethan stating that he was at our meeting spot. I quickly pocketed my phone and rushed out the door and ran at a speed that if Baen had seen me would have reprimanded me for, but I was beyond caring at that point.

Once I arrived outside the park I unwillingly slowed my pace, you know, because if I showed up as nothing but a blur things could get mighty complicated and weird. As I casually strolled into the park I was greeted with the sight of Ethan playing on the monkey bars, and boy was it a sight. I could see his muscles flexing under his white long sleeve thermal shirt, and I was also very thankful that he didn't wear long baggy shirts because as he lifted himself from bar to bar I got a sneak peek of his very toned abs. When he reached the end, he smiled like a kid, and that was when he noticed me and said,

"Why didn't you let me know you were here?" I smirked as I crossed my arms over my chest, mostly so I didn't throw them around him,

"What and miss the show?" He coughed nervously as he rubbed the back of his neck,

"So, now that we are here what do you want to do?" I tilted my head to the side as I walked closer to him and said,

"Why, play of course." I then grabbed his hand as I led him towards the slides and smiled at him through that warm fire feeling touching him gave me, because this was all we could be, this was all I could let us be.

After we slid down the slides and climbed the dome and tried to out jump each other off the swings we laid on the roundabout after the final spin and just looked up at the sky. The stars were starting to fade and the dark was beginning to lighten, and I suddenly wanted to capture that sky. I then heard him chuckle and turned to face him and asked,

"What seems to be so funny?" He shrugged his shoulders as he kept his eyes on the sky,

"Nothing, it just seems like you really want to take a picture of the sky." My eyes widened,

"And how would you know that?" He shrugged again,

"I don't know, you just get this look in your eyes that to most people looks like you're zoned out, but really you're just very focused on your target." I sighed,

"You called my name, didn't you?" He laughed,

"Three times." It was then that he finally turned to face me, and I was struck by how handsome he really was, the angle of his cheeks, and the set of his jaw, and as his beautiful different color eyes meet my golden ones I suddenly found it very hard to breathe. At that moment, I wanted to know why fate had to be so cruel as to drop this perfect man into my life but not let me be with him. Why couldn't we have met before? Before the attack that caused me to turn? Why was I always too late? I sighed as I asked softly,
