Eerie

The next few days were a haze of chunky monkey and K dramas. I couldn't sleep, and no matter what I ate I felt like I was going to throw up. Kai was a pretty good sport. He sat with me while I cried through the dramas and gave me sippy cups of blood between the ice cream. Then one night I looked over at him while he was sneering at the TV and asked,

"Have you ever been in love?" He looked at me like I had grown a second head as he nearly choked on his own cup of blood,

"Why?" I sighed,

"Because if you had, you aren't now, and I would know that there is an end to this crappy feeling." He sighed as he rested his head against my headboard,

"Once. A long time ago when I was nineteen and still human." My eyes widened,

"What happened?" He shrugged,

"We were from two different classes. She couldn't marry me and was forced to marry someone else."

"Why didn't you fight for her?" He turned his head to look at me,

"You think I didn't? I pleaded with her father to let me marry her, but he refused. I begged her to run away with me, but she said I had no way to provide for her, which wasn't wrong. After she was married my heart hurt so much I thought I was going to die. Then one day she was at my door, and I thought that this was it, we could finally be together, and then she told me how much she hated her husband and how badly he treated her. She wanted me to kill him so that we could finally be together. When I look back now I know that she was playing me, who knows if she ever really loved me."

"Did you...kill him?" He shook his head slowly,

"I would have, I was actually on my way to do it when I saw him right there on the busy street. I thought it was my lucky day and I could just stab him while in the crowd and run away. Apparently, someone else had the same idea, and before I knew it he was lying on the ground in a pool of blood. I never did find out if she had gotten someone else to do it or if he brought it on himself. After I saw him lying there and thought about what I almost did, I ran and never looked back." I stared at him and thought that this was my first glimpse through the armor he had built around himself as I said,

"She was stupid for ever letting you go." He smiled,

"This is true, but if she hadn't, I never would have become a vampire." My eyes widened,

"Do I get that story too?" He shook his head as he got off my bed,

"Nope." I groaned. He then pointed to the bag of blood on my nightstand and said, "Drink that and go to bed. No more K dramas, those things will rot your brain." I nodded as I watched him leave. I then looked to the bag of blood and felt my stomach turn at the thought of it, so I chucked it in the trash and turned my light out as wished for sleep to come, but all it did was make me think about if Ethan's feelings for me were real or if I was just getting played like Kai did.
