For the last 2 weeks Jade has been up and leaving at the same time every night again. I would ask her questions and she would avoid them downright. It pissed me off more because I was running Wolf Thorn by myself half the time when Jade was nowhere to be found.
Wolf Thorn was more successful than I think even Jade expected. It was busy from the moment it opened till the moment it closed. I was exhausted, lonely, frustrated. There were even nights I would get home from work and she wouldn't even be there. I didn't want my mind to go there, but that's what I began thinking that she was seeing someone else.
Duke and I have gotten a little closer because of him working security for Wolf Thorn and he would walk me to my car every night. I knew he liked me but of course I never acted on anything with him because I was with Jade and I love her. But as time has passed his advancements have gotten more intense.
It was Saturday afternoon and I usually wouldn't be working but with Jade being gone I figured I'd come in. It was pretty busy so I decided to jump behind the bar and help for a while. I've seen Jug, Fangs and Sweet Pea walk through to go down to the Wyrm but still no sign of Jade. I called and texted her a few times but I didn't get a response, which only fueled my anger for her at the moment.
A while later I decided to go on break so I went up to the office to relax for a little. As I was sitting on the couch someone knocked on the door. "Yeah who is it?" I called out "it's Duke." I walked over and opened the door. "What's up need anything?" I ask. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" He asked, I stepped aside and let him in. I sat back on the couch "so what's going on what do you need to talk about?"
He stood quiet for a minute "how are you? You're looking a little stressed" I sighed "I'm exhausted but I'll get through it." He ran his hand on the back of his neck "where has Jade been I haven't seen her around much lately?" I really didn't want to talk about our problems with him. "I don't know" was all I could say. "Well I think it's pretty fucked up she's been leaving you high and dry lately running everything. And she hasn't even been around to help you. Obviously she doesn't see what she's doing to you or she'd get her shit together." He replied.
"Well she has a lot of stuff going on I don't know what you want me to say Duke. But don't you dare bad mouth her." I reply annoyed. "She doesn't see what she has in front of her. A gorgeous woman who has been covering her ass. She's taking advantage of your kindness Toni and it fucking kills me to see it happening."
I knew it was true something was going on with Jade but that was the promise I made to her I'd have her back not just with life but with Wolf Thorn too. I was doing everything on my own at the moment and Jade couldn't even give me a simple phone call or send a text. "I'm doing my job Duke, I'm manager"
