"It's not what you think-" Chan tried to explain but the smell of burnt lingered throughout the house. "Get Woojin and the others," Chan commanded which Changbin obliged to. He took Minho with him to the basement, Chan all of his drawers and grabbed everything while Minho looked for a bag to put all those things in.
Chan pushed a divider away from the wall with all of his strength and punched a red button behind it. The whole place was filled with red lights and an ear-deafening siren was heard. "Minho," he looked at the boy, noticing how beautiful the younger was. He suddenly had the urge to kiss him even though they were licking each other's faces awhile ago.
Minho stood still under Chan's gaze, the heavy bag held tightly in his hands. He was nervous, not because of the situation but because of his own mixed feelings towards the boy standing before him. He shouldn't get attached to the person he was supposed to despise but Chan gave him affection, in which Minho couldn't have back in his own home where everything seemed to be all planned out well and how he should read books about his people's differences and the laws.
But Chan and his friends taught him otherwise, they taught Minho of wherever has to come will be welcomed with acceptance and even with their differences, they all lived together for years without any sets of rules. Chan was the leader of rebels but he had the heart of a true leader, it's not what Minho always read in the books because the city always tell him how to see things and being with the said rebels, Minho felt he didn't have any responsibilities for once and he was able to feel loved.
Chan pulled him by the waist and connected their lips into a short kiss, "Go outside the house, you'll be safe there."
"But Chan-"
"I can't bare losing one more important person in my life! Just go and-" Chan sighed, clenching his fists as he tried to stop fear taking over his mind. "Stay safe, okay? Please."
Without furthermore ado, Minho ran from the basement and outside the house. He turned to stare at it burning until he noticed two arrows, one above the roof with the flag of the city and the other was the fruit of the flame. Jungle City must be so desperate to get rid of the rebels that even he told them not attack, they'd still sneak some here and there. Minho was going to change that when he gets to sit on the throne.
With thick smoke filling his sight, Chan jogged to Woojin's room where the others were still stuck. The ceiling was on fire, so were the walls and it was hard to stop himself from running away but his friends were in danger and as a leader, he should lead them out the house. "Woojin! Changbin!" He called out but no response and the smoke was too much for his eyes to see a single thing. "Seungmin, Jeongin? Jisung!"
Again, no response.
Chan waved the smoke away from his face and looked around while his eyes becoming teary. He saw three bodies huddled by the corner, Chan immediately ran to them but the ceiling collapsed which made it impossible to reach the three. "Chan hyung," he heard Changbin from behind him, coughing.
"Where's Woojin?" Chan asked as he pulled Changbin to his side, they quickly walked away from the room. The leader didn't wait for an answer due to Changbin's continuous coughing and just helped him get out. "Minho, take care of Changbin, I'm going after the others."
But Minho beat him to it with hands gripping tightly Chan's arms. "Don't, please," the blonde pleaded, sincerely not wanting to lose Chan. Even if he tried to save the others, they were already dead. "Stop thinking about other people and start thinking about yourself, you're too-selfless, Chan."
Chan lowered his head and shut his eyes tightly, it all happened again. The incident seven years ago, when Chan wasn't able to save his parents and his two younger siblings. He was at the farm when a landlord came to fetch his family's taxes. Chan had the money, if he just went home earlier then his family wouldn't have been attacked just because of the reason they can't pay yet. That was where his hate towards the government started to grow and the insecurity and unfairness it has.
He even hated every second he gets to live while his family were already dead.
"Chan, it's alright," Minho caressed his cheeks, the softness of his hand eased Chan. That's right, he wasn't able to save his whole family but Chan saved the person who once and always will own his heart. "At least you have me and Changbin, right? And if possible, Hyunjin could be alive too and maybe we could save him."
"And your brother," Chan faced Minho with a faint smile making the other giggle. Minho nodded and kissed Chan's chaste lips, enjoying every bit of it.
"Oh yes, I'm okay, guys-I'm okay," Changbin began to rant things saying his alive and alright while still lying on the ground with his arms and legs spread out. The couple turned to look at him. "Woo, I'm breathing so I'll be fine so just continue with your business while I silently accept the fact the you two are fucking together."
