ᴀᴠʏᴀɴɴᴀ

I shoot up awake. It's still early, the sun not so bright, shining through.

Did yesterday really happen?

I run out and knock on Tobias's door.

He takes his time in opening. Still asleep, perhaps.

"Hey," He grins at me.

"Hi," I reply, hoping yesterday wasn't just a really good dream.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" He laughs.

I shrug.

"Come in," He goes in and I follow.

"I'm sorry, did yesterday really happen?" I stop and ask.

He looks over his shoulder. "It did. Anything wrong?"

"Nothing wrong," I shake my head and take the opportunity to kiss his cheek.

He grins at me, "Why the sudden affection? I'm not complaining, by the way,"

"Who said it was sudden?" I reply.

"You got me there," He shakes his head. "Breakfast?"

"You were up?" I ask.

"I'm usually up early," He shrugs.

"Sure— shit, anyway, see you later. I gotta go," I wave.

"Huh?"

"I had some work and I promised I'll be in early,"

He leans in and presses his lips onto mine.

"Now go, bye," He waves.

I almost walk to the door when I hear him again.

"I have something to talk to you about. Meet me after work, yeah?"

"Okay," I nod and rush out.

"Goddamnit, Avyanna. You sure took your sweet time," Christina rolls her eyes.

"Sorry," I sit down and login on my computer.

"What happened?" She asks.

"What what happened? I look at her.

"Yesterday, Avyanna. What happened?" She asks.

"Well, Cara's dinner and—"

"I know that shit. I was there. What happened at the end? Where did you and Tobias go?" She glances at me.

I clear my throat, "Hey, look. Sector 78 has brought water saving methods. I need to talk to someone about water wastage."

"We talked about Sector 78 last week, Avyanna," She laughs and I bite my tongue.

"Tobias and I..." I sigh.

"Are...together?" She says, casually.

I stare at her.

"Aha! So it finally happened!" She grins.

"What?" I laugh.

"Man, that's great," She grins.

"Christina! Keep your voice low!" Our Supervisor yells from the other side.

"Look who's talking," She grumbles and continues her work.

Several months later:

I decided that I'll quit my job.

I told Christina first. She nodded but asked me why and I told her.

Next, I knock on my boss' door.

"Ah, Hello," She answers with a smile. Always has a smile on her face, the boss.

"Good morning, Mrs Forte," I nod.

"What is the matter?" She asks.

"I want to resign." I sit down.

"Resign? Why?" She asks.

"I'm looking for some physical job, Mrs Forte. This is much of a desk job, you see," I grin.

She laughs, "If that's what you want, sure. We'll miss you."

"I will too. Thank you." I stand up. "I'll send my two weeks' notice soon."

"Sure," She nods.

I return home after that and knock on Tobias's.

"Hi," He pecks me lightly.

"Hey, I've got news," I say and collapse on his couch.

"What is it?" He asks.

"I'm quitting the job," I tell him.

"Oh, why?"

"I need action, Tob, action," I laugh.

He raises an eyebrow.

"See, this is a desk job. I spend hours behind a computer. I want moving and action and challenges." I try to explain.

"So what are you planning to do?" He asks.

"I have to search," I shrug. "But I have one more thing to tell you."

He nods.

"I want you to talk to Johanna Reyes about something," I tell him.

"Johanna?" He looks at me. "What?"

"About water saving schemes."

"Water saving schemes." He repeats. "Sure, but why don't you talk to her yourself?"

"And how am I supposed to do that?" I ask and he gives me a look. I almost forgot where he works.

"Seriously?" He gives me a look.

"Right, sorry," I grin.

"Tomorrow?" He pulls me closer.

"Tomorrow."

I press my lips onto his and he wraps his arms around me.

Somebody clears their throat behind us and I pull back and look over my shoulder.

Christina stands there, looking away.

"Next time, please close your door and spare me," She says and rolls her eyes at us.

Tobias looks at me and I give him a 'I'm-sorry' look.

"Anyway, I wanted to talk about the whole quitting thing with you," She sits down.

"Ah, right,"
