"We considered it and we'll get back to you. Yes. Okay. Yeah," I put the phone down.
This man had been pestering me.
I walk as fast as I can to my office, balancing three open files as I skim through the pages. My phone rings again.
"Hi Johanna. Yeah, the meeting is this afternoon. You want me to be there? I was meeting this person...Okay I'll postpone it. Great. Okay. I'll bring the files. Yes, Elena is working. Okay, I'll tell her," I put my phone back in my pocket, careful not to drop anything.
I stop by the desk of my secretory.
"Elena, Johanna asked for you," I nod as I walk away again.
Ugh, I should talk to the board about not putting my office in a corner. I don't even have to go to the gym in this case.
I knock at a door and push it open. A man stands as he sees me. "Morning, Sir."
"Morning, Ben. I want this file done by this afternoon."
I walk away again, almost bumping into someone. My phone rings.
"Hi Elena, oh she isn't there? Maybe she's in the other building. Give her a call, will you? Right. No problem at all. Okay. Bye."
I push my office door open. Skimming through the remaining two files, I sit down. Today has been crazy. Almost everyday is like this. I almost like this hustle. I need it.
I look at my phone. "One pm, Two pm, Four pm, Five pm, Seven pm." I read out my appointments. It'll be late by the time I go home.
Someone knocks and enters. My phone rings again, and I cut the call, not seeing who the caller was.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Sir, I have a doubt. If I have to do this—" Ben goes on explaining about possibilities.
"I'd say, you choose the third," I nod.
"Great. Thanks Sir," He leaves. I don't know why everyone calls me sir. I asked them not to but they just smile at me.
My phone rings again. I sigh as I turn it over to see the caller.
Avyanna.
I smile to myself. She never usually calls me when at work. I'd love to talk to her right now. I need to take my mind off a few things.
"Hey, there," I grin unknowingly as I answer it.
The voice on the other side is not hers.
"Mr Tobias Johnson?" A lady asks.
"Yes?" I answer. Is this some sort of a prank?
"Ms. Avyanna Gill has your number in the recent contacts. There has been an incident as the North Bridge, I'm sure you've heard. She got severely injured. I recommend you come to the hospital as soon as possible."
It has to be a mistake. "I'll be there. Right now."
I grab my keys and run to the car. It has been ages since I ran in a hurry...like this.
"Elena." I dial her number as I drive as fast as I can.
"Yes, Mr Johnson?" She answers.
"Postpone all my meetings, I've got a family emergency, I'm afraid," I frown.
"Oh I'm sorry, sir, but what about Ms Reyes's—"
"That too."
"But Sir—"
