(Alarm Clock buzzing on and on)……Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
As the alarm clock went off, my eyes instantly opened and my body jerked off. “Waaaaaaaaah! It’s up! I have to get up now. No more snuggy time with my bed.” I moved like a ninja jumping to and fro. Because of it, I woke Ice up who was sleeping next to my bed.
“Hey, Kamri.” While stretching her body like a fluffy cat. “What on earth are you doing?”
“I’m getting ready to work.” I replied rushly and pulled my towel in the basket underneath my bed.
“What? Excited? “ She peeked at the clock beside her. “It’s still 5:37 am. It’s too early. What’s with the rush?”
“Remember what I told you last night?”
“Oh, the hot monstrous guy.”
“Yes, exactly. I’m gonna start working with him today so I have to be geared up.” Showing more ninja moves to her.
“All right. Please, don’t make a lot of noise. Be back to sleep.” Ice went back to sleep again and she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. She even slept like a log. That was my Twinee, Ice Collins, but we were not biologically twins. You might have wondered why I called her my Twinee. Actually, we looked similar and what was so funny about it was we had a lot of something in common such as we had the same crushes, favourite food, movies, life experiences and many more. We even pranked other people by disguising that I was Ice and Ice was me since people usually mistook our identity. I found it awesome. Well, she was a patissier in Gateau Café which was a well-known cake house in Manhattan. That was why there were tons of cupcakes and cakes in our fridge. Sweets was our jam. Oh, enough of this for a while.
I hopped in the shower and hit my fave song “You need me, I don’t need you by Ed Sheeran.”
“Cause you need me, but, I don't need you
You need me, but, I don't need you
You need me, but, I don't need you (at all)
You need me, but, I don't need you
You need me, but, I don't need you
You need me, but, I don't need you
You need me, but, I don't need you (at all)
You need me”
After15 minutes, I went straight ahead to my pink room and sorted some outfits for today.
Facing the Mirror: “I think this one is best for today. Ok.. Gonna put this on. Kamri, don’t let that guy get into your nerve. Inhale. Exhale. Inner Peace.”
I walked downstairs to the kitchen and poured a hot choco into my tumbler and headed upstairs to say goodbye to Ice. Honestly, I had a weird way of saying goodbye to her. I opened the door of our room and presto , I threw an ice bag to her and runaway.
“Kamri, not again!” She shouted madly.
That was how I showed my goodbye to my dear twinee. Well, it always freaked her out.
I patted the heads of our dog Kuma ( a husky ) and Milo ( a black Labrador ). Then, I hopped into my car and drove away.
“Good morning Kamri.”
“Oh, good morning Kaleb.” I replied with a big smile. Kaleb was our company’s best male receptionist that always greeted anyone with a killer smile and lovely voice.
“You are too early today.” He asked.
“Didn’t you know that today is my first day to work with the new editor-in-chief?”
“Oh, Blake Davis. I’ve heard a lot of stories about him.”
My eyes got bigger as Kaleb mentioned his name and I rushed towards him and whispered…”What do you know about him? Could you share it to me?”
Kaleb looked from left to right checking if there were a lot of employees walking around and he lowered his head towards me.
“Well, as far as I know, he is such a cold fish and he always gives a cold shoulder to anybody. “
“Really?”
“Yes. He could even freeze you up by the way he looks at you.”
“That’s interesting Kaleb.”
“Goodluck Kamri.”
“Hmmm.. Thanks. Geez.. It’s gonna be a tough day for me. Anway, gotta go and thanks for the info. Gonna treat you some coffee some time.”
I headed to the editor-in-chief’s office which was on the 24th floor. I was swooned away by the time the elevator opened. This floor was amazingly beautiful. In fact, it was my first time to be in here.
I looked around and curiously stared at the delicate architecture that was in here. The painting was extraordinary. I felt like walking in Italy. A sudden noise broke my moment. I felt the creep into my spine since I knew I was just alone when I got here. I was crazily imagining that there might have been a ghost hiding in the walls. I heard a clacking sound near the century-old table. I jolted. I wanted to freak out but I held it. I tiptoed closer to it wandering what was the cause of that strange sound when a loud voice frazzled me.
“You are late.”
To my surprised I shouted like a cat being pricked by a needle. “ Mother Father Gentle Man!” I turned around and I saw Blake standing behind me. He was grinning like a monster fresh from the hell. His green eyes stared at me as if he wanted to swallow me whole. “Why are you late Ms. Ackles? You are supposed to be here one hour earlier than the usual time. This is unprofessional.” He walked around tapping the CEO’s table. I looked at him with a chin up and seriously defended myself. “ Excuse me, Mr. Blake, I’m not late. I am even in time.”
He laid his hands on the table, gazed at me and raised his right eyebrow. “Wow. You could even cover up yourself with that lame excuse. Gonna clear this out. Don’t just call me Mr. Blake. I demand more respect. Call me Mr. Blake Davis. Okay? I want you to be earlier than the usual time that you come here. All documents that I need to review must be on my table before I get here. All my appointments must be all set. I hate procrastination and slackers. Is it clear?”
What! What was it? Was he pulling my leg? This was against labor code. This man was so unjust. Grrh… I was not a robot programmed to do such stuff like what he mentioned. I would truly cursed this man. I really wanted to grab his neck and gave him a choke slam.
“Yes, Mr. Blake Davis. It is as clear as purified water.” I replied sharply.
“What are you still standing there? Get moving…. the clock is ticking. Tik-Tak. “ He ignorantly commanded me. I turned my back and when I was about to grab the doorknob to open the door, he abruptly hollered. “ Hold up. Bring me a cup of coffee. No sugar, no cream, no milk and it must be 80 degrees Celsius. Okay?”
What! This was insane on the first day. I hadn’t encountered a boss that was so bossy and demanding like him. Could you imagine he asked me to bring him a coffee which was 80 degrees Celsius temperature. It was ridiculous. He made my day so much.
Do you think Kamri will let Blake rule over her? Do you think she will meet what Blake has demanded her? Let’s see at the next chapter.
