Days have passed and I went to the meeting a few days ago. "Clara, I am leaving.", Eponine said. "Where are you going? When will you be back? Eponine, it's my birthday.", I said. "I know. But don't worry, I will send Marius here to keep you company.", she promised. She gave me a tight hug and left.
I sat down on my mattress. I felt awful. Gavroche was somewhere and Eponine just left. What an amazing 15th birthday. I didn't want to wait for Marius to keep me company, he was bad at it anyways. I walked out on the busy streets of Paris and took the route to Café Musain.
On my way to the Café, a fight broke out. Turns out Montparnasse and my father fought about the money. And Gavroche has gotten in between them. Now the Inspector was dragging my brother away. "Hey, stop. Let him down!", I yelled. He looked at me and let Gavroche down. He marched over to me. "Young girls like you should know when to hold her tongue."
"I am not going to watch you hurting my brother.", I said before dragged Gavroche away. "Thank you, Clara." I kneeled down to him. "Don't worry little bud. You should be more careful though." "Gavroche!", Courfeyrac yelled, "oh thank god you're safe. Thank you, Mademoiselle." "Don't worry, I'll help my brother if needed." "Oh right. You're Clara right?"
"I am." "What were you doing here?" "I wanted to go to the Café. Maybe to find company." "Oh well. You'll definitely find good company there.", he said laughing. I remained silent. I didn't feel like laughing. Also, his joke wasn't funny. "Are you alright?" "I guess. I will be.", I said with a slight smile.
"I can be your company. I mean, if you want. Also if you don't mind me asking, why are you looking for company?", he asked. "It's complicated. Also, thank you. I need the company, otherwise, I'm alone." "Clara, I have a present for you at Café Musain.", Gavroche yelled.
"A present? For me?" "Yes, it's your birthday.", Gavroche smiled. "Oh Happy Birthday Mademoiselle." "Thank you.", I said. "Can we go now?", Gavroche asked, getting impatient. "Sure.", I said. He took my hand and ran into the streets of Paris. I couldn't keep up with him, so I let go off his hand. Bad mistake!
I continued to walk to the Café. Gavroche was nowhere to be seen, he was probably there already. Courfeyrac was also nowhere to be seen. I continued to walk and took in the silence. It was usually very loud on the streets but not this one. It was a calm place and the silence did well.
I reached the Café within a few minutes. I was sad that the silence has ended. The Café was crowded and noisy. If I didn't want to be alone, I'd go back to the street. I walked upstairs to see Gavroche and a few boys sitting at the table.
"Clara, there you are!", Gavroche exclaimed, "I have a present for you." "No, it's from all of us." "Yeah of course.", Gavroche said. "No it is just mine.", he said whispering. "Thank you.", I said. I kneeled down the little boy and gave him a tight hug.
"I wish Eponine was here.", Gavroche said with tears in his eyes. Gavroche and I were very close and we both didn't want Eponine to leave us. But she had to. Otherwise, we would starve to death. "Go on, open it!", Jehan yelled. Bossuet started laughing.
I opened the present and revealed a small box. I opened the box, to find a beautiful necklace in it. It was my name on a necklace. I felt tears in my eyes. The boys must have sensed that I was about to cry. I felt many arms wrapping me up in a hug.
"You're welcome.", Jehan and Gavroche whispered. Courfeyrac put the necklace around my neck. "Looks perfect.", he said. "Thank you.", I said. They all shot me a huge smile. Then Enjolras entered the room.
"What is going on?"
(a/n: I have two stories prepared but I don't know when I should post it. Any suggestions? Also, leave your opinion on chapter 3 below.)
