"What about me?" "There is more about you. And I am interested to find out.", he said. "What do you wanna know?" "Have you always lived on the streets?", Enjolras asked. "No. Eponine took us with her and now we're living in a small house we found. It was empty so we decided to live there."
"What about your parents?" "My parents? They were innkeepers. They had an inn in Montfermeil. The Inn was called "Sergeant de Waterloo".", I said. He laughed.
"We had to work as children. A little girl named Cosette was doing all the dirty work. Eponine saved Gavroche from leaving with another man. My sister and Cosette were sold. Eponine taught us everything we know now.", I remembered.
"Don't you miss your family?" "No, absolutely not. They are horrible people. They steal everything they can, unfortunately.", I sighed. "Do your parents love you?" "No. They never have and never will. I am independent and I don't need them. I have learned the hard way. But I do not regret a thing.", I said with a smile.
"It's getting late. Should I take you home?" "No thank you Enjolras. That's nice of you to ask though. See you around I guess.", I said before leaving. I walked into the dark streets of Paris. The talk with Enjolras made me sad. He's not a jerk after all. He's someone from the upper class and I was from the lowest class you could find, yet we were quite similar.
"'Ello young lady. Stay with us for a while." "No thank you." The man grabbed my arm rather harshly. "Hey let me go!", I yelled. "Not a chance," I screamed. He held my mouth shut immediately and for once in my life, I felt completely helpless.
***
I reached my home. I was crying, I was hurt. Not only my body ached, but my pride was also hurt too. "Clara!", Eponine yelled. She took my face in her hands. "I was so worried about you.", she said. "I just want to go to bed.", I said. "Alright. Go to bed.", she said.
I left the small living area and went behind the cloth that was hanging from the ceiling. I laid down on my mattress and fell asleep.
***
"Bonjour Mademoiselle.", the face of Joly greeted me. "Bonjour Joly. Why are you here?" "Eponine was worried about you. Apparently, you came home this morning.", Courfeyrac explained, "how long did you spend at the Café with Enjolras?" "We stayed until 2 in the morning. I asked her if I should walk her home, she declined.", Enjolras spoke.
"What happened?" The question of my friends and family members started to annoy me. "Stop! Please. I don't want to answer!", I cried, "Is this too much to ask for?" I walked away. I just wanted to be left alone. I felt awful.
***
"Clara? Are you alright?", Gavroche asked. He had found my hiding spot somehow. I looked at him with my tear-stained face. "You're not.", he stated, "I don't want to see you so upset." Gavroche crawled into my hiding spot and hugged me.
"Don't be upset.", Gav whispered.
(a/n: don't worry, I'll explain (or she will) in the next few chapters. Also, I am meeting up with my best friend today and I am so excited already. I hope you enjoy this chapter. Leave your thoughts on this chapter below ❤︎)
